Queen Noor of Jordan is an international humanitarian activist and an outspoken voice on issues of world peace and justice. Since 1978, she has initiated, directed, and sponsored projects and activities in Jordan to address specific national development needs in the areas of education, culture, women and children’s welfare, sustainable community development, environmental conservation, human rights, and conflict resolution. She has also worked closely with the United Nations and other international organizations to address global challenges in these fields.
Queen Noor of Jordan was born Lisa Najeeb Halaby (Arabic: الملكة نور; born 23 August 1951 in Washington, D.C.) widow of the late King Hussein of Jordan. She was born an American of Syrian, English, Swedish, and Scottish descent.
She attended Princeton University and received a BA in Architecture and Urban Planning in 1974. She actually met King Hussein while working in Jordan on the development of the Amman Intercontinental Airport.
Splitting her time between Jordan; Washington, D.C.; and London. She continues to work on behalf of numerous international organizations and makes 70 to 100 speaking appearances annually.
Since summer of 2008 she is reputed to be having a romance with the Mexican Carlos Slim the 2nd wealthiest man on earth.
