My boyfriend has nice thick brown hair, but has a receding hairline. He does not want to cut his fringe short, as he has quite a large forehead. Are there any particular styles which would make a change from his long fringe whilst drawing no attention to his forehead?

Quite a popular mens style at the moment is to have the hair tapered, almost graduated at the back and quite heavy at the front. (Like the guitarist from Busted) this would be good for your boyfriend particularly as his hairline is receding.

I recently went to visit my regular hairdresser in Whitchurch, Cardiff. Unfortunately the sign on the door said closed and there was no sign of life. I needed a haircut badly, not to be confused with getting my hair cut badly! En route to the car I passed another salon, one I had not used in the past but what with an important meeting the next day I had no choice. In I went, enquired if I could get a haircut reasonably quickly. The answer was, YES, but it will cost you £25 (I am an eccentric millionaire!) Without reservation I replied, no problem. To which the
receptionist told me it would be a shampoo and cut. NO shampoo thanks, just a dry cut (or wet cut without shampoo – do not like the stuff). Cannot do was the receptionists declaration, hygiene see! Is there now a Health and Safety dictate that prevents dry cuts? If so, maybe other salons should be aware. I suspect the whiff of provincial salon snobbery... Advice please.

I am not aware of any health and safety issues with wet/dry cutting. Most top salons will only do a full cut and blow dry service as they see a dry trim not to be worth it, also it costs more to do a cut and blow. Also many stylists believe their haircuts are more precise with a full cut and dry service.

I bought foam curlers. I have long brown hair, and its always in the same style. I want big LOOSE curl strands. What products, type not brand, should I use, and how do I get that effect?

Use a styling lotion and not a gel, and then set on the rollers (wet hair) make sure that the rollers are totally dry and cool before removing them and then apply a spray to hold the curls in place.
