Award Winning hairstylistMark's hairdressing career began at 16. It was the 80s and the time where hair and fashion were breaking all the rules. Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran were massive all the guys were having colour in their hair and it was a great time to be entering hairdressing. There were no limits when it came to creativity, he says.
Mark started his hairdressing career in Mansfield, working in a local salon, before opening his own salon with partner Richard Darby in 1996. By 2006 business was booming and it was time to move into a bigger, more luxurious salon in Mansfield. The team moved premises into a 3,000 sq ft luxurious haven of tranquility providing the ultimate experience in hairdressing and beauty Mark Leeson Hair, Body and Mind. It was a savvy move and gave clients the opportunity to relax in sumptuous surroundings whilst having their hair and beauty needs taken care of by the highly trained team of professionals.
With a solid business in place, Mark has been able to focus on his passion photographic work. He has become known for his signature look stunning, beautiful, feminine hair bringing out the beauty in every woman he works with.
Mark is a global colour ambassador for Goldwell and regularly travels the globe representing the prestigious colour house creatively.
In recent years Mark's career has risen to greater heights, since winning a long list of awards for his outstanding photographic work. He is most proud of winning the Eastern Hairdresser of the Year three times at the British Hairdressing Awards, which has provided him with a place amongst hairdressing's elite in the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame.
Other awards include twice winner of the British Colour Technician of the Year, Fellowship Consumer Image of the Year and twice winner of Most Wanted Colour Expert. However his greatest achievement is without doubt being nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year, for the first time in 2011 a lifetime ambition that placed him on the shortlist as being one of the greatest hairdressers in the UK, if not the world.
In 2012 Mark's career has reached new heights, when he was asked to perform on stage for the Five Point Alliance at Top Hair in Germany to an audience of 4000. This was followed in March 2012 by being presented with the hugely prestigious Hair Hero Award from Hair Magazine, and in May he was presented with a Hall of Fame award by the National Hairdressers Federation.
Mark's year of achievements did not end there and once again he was nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year in 2012, and his team scooped Artistic Team of the Year, and Eastern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards.
As the year came to a close, Mansfield newspaper The Chad presented Mark with a hugely prestigious Lifetime Achievement award.
In 2013 Mark made the final of the Your Hair Image of the Year Award, as well as being a finalist for Colour Expert at the Most Wanted awards. The salon finalised for the Your Hair Eastern Salon Award, and once again Mark received his third nomination for British Hairdresser of the Year. The team scooped Artistic Team of the Year and finalised for an impressive three other categories.
In 2014 Mark not only won the prestigious Colour Expert award but he was also won the ultimate accolade in UK hairdressing when he was named the British Hairdresser of the Year.It was an important year for Mark. Not only had he realised his dream in reaching the top of his profession but he also opened a brand new salon in Chesterfield, making it a very special year for Mark and his team.
Known for producing the most beautiful and striking collections, Mark has a reputation for possessing the finest finishing skills in the industry. To Mark, education is paramount and he works tirelessly at sharing his knowledge, ideas and skills to ensure that British hairdressing has the reputation it deserves.
