All you got to say to your barber is 3 and half going up to a 4 on the sides and back. Trim from the top with Scissors, he/she should normally ask you how much of the length on the top you would like to have off ... thats your choice... also depends on how short or long you hair is in the first place. Second of all this type of style is one of them fluky type ones, ive noticed that when i just spike my hair up and down, back and fourth, side to side etc a nice type of style comes out, however when i want to achieve a specific style it never works. Hmmm who knows ! :P

this isnt a hard style to manage but does require some sort of wax or hairspray to style the top

I got this done but a little bit shorter on top. I showed the stylist the picture, and she said it was a scissor cut on top and 4s on the back and sides. Once my hair grows out it will look just like this(:

You can go for a 4 back and sides, trim on the top, depending on how much you have on the top obviously denotes how much to take off. You can have the cut last longer by having a say 2 back and sides, trim on top, but getting a low blend i.e the blend starts half way on the side/back of your head.

Grade 4 back and side or as short as you like use hair wax or paste for a mat finish on dry hair and it wont go flat
