Step-by-Step guide to basic Childrens hairstyles
Childrens Basic Hair Care and Maintenance
Children’s haircuts: Children’s hair should be trimmed every8-12 weeks to help keep the ends healthy and stop split ends from forming. Split ends are responsible for creating tangles and destroying the appearance of hair.
Washing the hair: This will depend on your daughter’s hair type, but on average, washing every 2-3 days is recommended.
Conditioning the hair:Conditioner should only be used when needed to help keep the hair healthy and tangle-free. Avoid conditioning roots.
Styling wet hair: Hair can stretch up to 30% when it is wet, so it is important to be gentle when brushing. If you style wet hair, do it loose so the hair has the opportunity to shrink. Tight hairstyles with wet hair can cause breakage especially when you are doing tight plaits or other styles that are typically tight to the head.
Detangling: With all of the hair back, start with one section of the hair and brush out the tangles starting at the bottom of the hair. As you brush out the tangles, you can work your way up the hair until you eventually get to the top of that section of hair. One section at a time, you will brush out the tangles and then pull that section of hair to the side and get started on the next. Working in small sections prevents the head from being pulled so much and allows you to work out tangles in smaller groups.
Step-by-step
Basic Ponytail
Spray hair with water or detangling spray.
Use the wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair.
Holding the hair in one hand, comb all sides backwards to smooth hair back.
Place hair bobble around the hair as close to the head as possible. Twist bobble into a figure of eight and place round the hair again to secure in place.

Gather hair into a ponytail where you want the bun to be positioned. Secure with a hair bobble.
Twist the ponytail into a tight rope, coiling it around itself at the base.
Tuck the end of the of the coil into the hair bobble at the base.
Secure with hair grips at the buns base and sides.
Step-by-step
Fishtail Plait
Use the wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair. Divide the hair into two equal sections at the nape of the neck.
Using your right hand, take a skinny strand of hair from the outside of the right section and cross it over to the inside of the left section, now holding that section with your left hand.
Repeat using your left hand, take a skinny strand of hair from the outside of the left section and cross it over to the inside of the right section, now holding that section with your right hand.
Continue this process using a small strand from each side at a time.
Keep pulling the plait tight after each section is crossed over.
When you reach the end, secure with a bobble.
Step-by-step
French Plait
Use the wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair. Measure a section of hair from the front of the head that is approximately the width of the temples. Smooth it straight back with no parting.
Divide this piece of hair into three sections.
Cross the left section over the centre section, then cross the right section over the centre section. Pull the sections away from each other to tighten the plait.
Beginning on the left side, use a finger to gather a small strand (about 1 inch wide) of loose hair next to the left section. Join this hair into the left section. Now cross this left section over the middle section, as if you're doing a basic plait. Pull the sections taut.
Repeat on the right side and continue adding small strands of hair into the right and left sections, leaving no hair hanging free, as you plait down to the nape of the neck.
When you reach the end, secure with a bobble.
