STYLING

Wavy train

Wavy hair was a standout beauty trend at the A/W16 shows. Forget tight ringlets, this trend is about soft, gentle, defined waves, not curls. Giambatista Valli's mermaid waves were my absolute favourite; they were so feminine and magical, but the loose waves at Balmain were just as gorgeous. Retro waves dominated the catwalk at Marni and Marc Jacobs; Forties wartime waves were revived at Marni, while at Marc Jacobs, Twenties' style finger waves were worn set and sculptured. This look isn't restricted to the lengths of the hair – at Stella McCartney models sported wavy side fringes. This is such an easy look to recreate, both in salon and at home. Make sure you use a styling tool designed to create waves, rather than curls, such as the BaByliss PRO Deep Waver. Finish the look with an on-trend thin elastic hairband, as seen at Versace.

Water works

The trend for wet-look locks is showing no sign of waning. While at the S/S16 shows, models sported slicked-back, overly-glossed hair, that looked fresh from a workout, this season the look is much smarter. Forget sports-luxe, just think luxe. My favourite way to wear this look, as inspired by Saint Laurent, Jil Sander and Dries Van Noten, is with a chic ponytail. The look can be dressed up for a night out, or down for the office, and it is so simple. To achieve the look, blow-dry hair smooth and use L'Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil to add shine. Slick hair straight back, without parting it, or comb in to an on-trend deep side parting, working the lengths in to a sleek ponytail at the nape of the neck, either centrally or to the side. Add Crystal Gloss by L'Oréal Professionnel, applying it with a dressing brush. Then add even more gloss, this time using fingers, to add maximum shine and to give a super-wet finish. Fix with a spritz of L'Oréal Professionnel Air Fix.

COLOUR

Mousey brown

The trend for ‘bronde' hair – that universally flattering shade that isn't quite brunette, but isn't strictly blonde – has evolved. Models at Joseph, Burberry and Christopher Kane sported uber-natural looking shades of mousey brown. Naturally mousey brown hair is more flattering than most people imagine – your natural shade is often the most flattering against your skin tone and requires minimal make-up – which makes this look very appealing. If the thought of going totally ‘au naturel' with your hair colour worries you, a touch of toner, or a temporary all-over tint can add depth and gloss to naturally mousey hair. Be sure to stick to one shade all over, to keep the look on-trend.

Winter white

Last winter, grey hair was the unexpected colour trend, and this year, it's different variations of white. I loved the colour seen at Sibling's show: it was a soft, apricot-tinged white that looked super ethereal and really pretty. At Felder and Felder and Saint Laurent, the look was slightly more mainstream, albeit more high-maintenance. Think all over Barbie-esque platinum blonde. To dip in to this trend without committing to an all-over bleach, try hair chalk to colour the roots white, as seen at Fenty X Puma.
