Wet & Slick

To go with this season's love of power hair, slick, gelled-down manes are big on the catwalk and celebrities are quickly following suit.

Super shiny and slick is the 2017 hair trend that is easy to re-create at home. With the right tools and products one can look like a super model in minutes.





You can rock this look a number of ways; take Taylor Hill's pony, showing you can still create a wet-look updo without looking greasy. Sweep hair over to the side for a more natural just out-the-shower look or keep swept back for sophistication.

How to: Contrary to belief, a pomade product or moose works best for this look, rather than a standard hair gel. On damp hair, rub a big helping of pomade or moose between the palms of your hands and run from roots to tip (focusing heavily on the crown if you are going for a slicked back and down look). Using a fine toothed comb evenly distribute the product until smooth and then style. Be careful not to over-coat the hair with product, as there still should be some movement and texture in your locks! For added shine, run a small drop of oil over the final look.

The Deep Side Part

The side parting has officially made a comeback and it is definitely here to stay! This look is one of the easiest ways to freshen up a familiar look and the most universal, instantly ready-to-wear, catwalk hair trend.

The new deep side parting has been updated by taking two or more inches of hair to the other side than you may be used to, creating the ‘deep sweep', think closer to your ear than the centre of your head.

How to: Make sure hair is smooth to begin with, tame any frizz with a small droplet of serum and brush any tangles through. Take a sectioning comb and working backwards, run the comb down your scalp, keeping in line with the middle of your eye brow. Softly flatten both sides down with the comb, making sure your parting is precise and visible. To finish off, add a touch of hair gel (or hairspray for finer hair) at the crown, to keep the deep side part firmly in place.

‘The Flave'

‘The Flave' also known as The Flat Wave is a relaxed take on the traditional Hollywood glam, bouncy curl. Think two day slept in curls, for a well-kept bed-head look.

‘The Flave' is the most natural of the curl, giving that effortless just rolled-out-of-bed look but with a salon worthy, feathery finish. This look suits most hair types and is super easy to re-create at home, however this look can take slightly longer on thick and naturally curly hair.

How to: For best results, style hair just before you sleep. Spritz hair with a texturising salt spray until slightly damp and scrunch. Take your hair into three sections (more if you desire a thinner wave and less for thicker) and braid. Blast each braid with a hairdryer on a medium temperature for a few seconds to mould the shape. Next, take a pair of straighteners and run over each braid clamping softly. Leave the braids in for half an hour (or longer if possible) then undo each braid slowly, brushing through with fingers. For a smoother sleek finish, take a soft bristle brush and lightly brush through the waves, being careful not to brush the curl out completely. Finish off with a light spray of dry hair oil or hairspray.

Rainbow Hair

Don't be mistaken for thinking coloured hair is just for teenagers, the new rainbow colour trend is sweeping its way into spring, with bright yellows and soft pastel pinks, making their way off the catwalk and onto the red carpets. Brighter hues work best on blondes, whilst brunettes should opt for warmer tones; think deep reds, greens and purples. If you're not ready to fully commit to these dramatic tones you are in luck, with a plethora of semi-permanent and wash-out options available in the market, these colours can be a permanent or as part-time as you please!

How to: If you are brave enough to fully commit to the rainbow hair hues, the best option is to visit a hairdresser who will fully assist you on what shades will suit your hair colour, hair type and skin tone. However, if you aren't quite ready to fully commit to the colour, pop down to your local high street or jump online to find endless semi-permeant and wash out products, from hair chalks to coloured hair sprays.
