Top 5 hair trends to give your party look some sparkle
by Jade Attwood, Content Editor for The Chapel Salon http://www.thechapel.co.uk/
The festive season is upon us: with office parties, christmas drinks, and family gatherings to attend, there is no better time to experiment with trending looks. Taking inspiration from the catwalk can be daunting; created by expert stylists, and meticulously planned to look flawless. But even the most out there of hair crazes can be intertwined into your party look, with minimum effort and maximum effect. So whether you want to go for gold with a glittering look, or channel the 70's style with a spot of rickracking, there is a hair trend that can give your usual LBD a new lease of life this winter.
Glamorous glitter
From Prada's statement gold lips, to Temperly's sequined eye, glitter rocked the makeup world, across the SS/16 runways. To make sure your sparkling beauty choices look more adult than adolescent, pick a high fashion hair style. For an edgy eye look, add texture to your hair and part in the middle to keep full attention on your glittering lids. If you have shorter hair, sporting a ruffled pixie crop will give an androgynous sharpness to this girly look. If you're planning to go metallic lip, a twisted updo is a keep the hair away from the face and add a touch of class.
Silver shades
If you're looking for winter colour change, taking inspiration from the icy weather could be the way forward. Not for the shy, grey is a bold choice; but will no doubt transform any dull hair into the centrepiece of your winter look. From Ellie Goulding, to Cara Delevinge, silver shades are being seen all over the fashion world. There are plenty of products available to try your hand at home, but it is tricky to get right. Your safest option is to go to a salon, who can get the shade to match your skin tone and know which will be most maintainable after treating.
High end hair accessories
If you want to try something different with your hair, but are dreading a cut or colour, invest in some high end hair accessories.Chanel added quirky clips, and ornate headbands to their longer haired models on their SS/16 catwalks: showing how easy it is to transform a look from day to night. If you really want to feel like a princess for day, follow suit from fashion icon Agyness Deyn, and crown yourself with a tiara. Now more trendy than trashy, tiaras are becoming the must have hair accessory for this season.
Retro rickracking
If there's one thing 70's disco did right, it was glamour. Harking back to the days of flares, flowing silk blouses, and towering platforms, the rickrack style is a simple way to give your hair a new lease of life. Take sections of hair and weave in and out of a large opened bobby pin. Clamp your straighteners over the top to set the hair. After taking out, brush carefully for the perfect tamed frizz. Spritz with texturising sea salt spray to give your waves natural hold: keeping your hair in place over the whole night, no matter how many mulled wines you have.
Cutting it short
If you really want a radical change, or perhaps already sport a short style but are bored of your usual style; try the ‘edgy pixie'. Seen on Hollywood starlets Sienna Miller, Jennifer Lawrence, and Kristen Stewart, this brave look is a sure fire way to get heads turning. Most opt for a sweeping fringe, and plenty of texture to keep the hair from looking flat. But if you want a super sleek style, use hair putty to smooth into a side parting, and finish with serum for a shining wet look.
Whatever your hair length or style, there are plenty of styles that will be sure to turn heads at any festive event. So have a go at home to make your party look sparkle today.
