The breakage could/can be due to the rubber band’s that secure the perm rod in place was too tight at the base of the scalp this can cause breakage as it creates stress and tension on the hair. In addition the tension on the hair may have been too excessive when the hair is wrapped around the perm rods. Again causing stress on the hair causing breakage. Flooding the scalp with excess perm lotion and overdevelopment of the solution can cause breakage. I think 13 is a little young to consider having a perm. That said. A soft perm can add body and life to fine limp hair. With today’s technology and techniques it is easy to achieve a natural looking perm to most hair textures and lengths. Keep in mind to get the most of your perm, you need to keep the hair conditioned, trimmed and avoid excess heat this will maintain the life of the perm and keep the hair in tiptop condition.

Layering the hair is often a great solution to add new life to your look. Keep the layers square as this will remove and neutralize the appearance of roundness. Perhaps something a little off balanced will keep the shape fresh – if you are daring enough!
