Lucy asks:

I went to the salon the other day my hair was mid-brown on top with highlights and darker brown underneath I asked my hairdresser to strip the dark brown out as I wanted to be light blonde. Since she�s done this my hair went golden/gingery looking and I�m very disappointed. She suggested putting an ash blonde through to tone down the �gold�. Will this work?

This is not an easy answer. If your hair is golden ginger looking then the ash blonde tone will not work. You need to have more of the YELLOW tone removed to allow this to work effectively otherwise you will still notice the predominant YELLOW tone coming through.

I have dyed my hair blonde and when my roots start to come through I get a box dye and go over them. But why does my hair go a different shade of blonde where my roots have been. I use exactly the same color as what�s on my hair.

As you have noticed simply re applying colour is not that easy to achieve the same result. Factors than can influence the result are: correct mixing proportions development time, heat and product/ natural oil in hair. Also the correct application of the colour to the roots can have a major effect on the colour outcome.

Ally asks:

I am a new stylist and need help with a colour correction. I recently had a advanced stylist tell me it is better to put colour on wet hair when working with damaged hair to get better results is this true? My client has a level 6G on her roots 3 inches down, the rest is around a level 7N with highlights. She wants more of a mocha brown around a level 6 all over.

Any suggestions on how to do this? Any information would truly help me!

The only time I would put a colour on wet hair is for a semi or temporary colour. 6G and 7N? I am not quite sure what this means but given that you want to go to a level 6 in base then this should not be a problem if the tone in the hair is not a dominant factor.

As always I would take a strand test to confirm any colour result prior to applying an overall colour.
