I am 21 years old.I have a medium length ,wavy and almost thin hair. I just put a pony tail or plait my hair rarely. I am having this hair style from past 10 years. I am scared to go in for layer cut because I feel that they may make my hair look even thinner.But I am bored of my hair style.Kindly suggest me something different so that I don’t lose my hair density and length .

Hello,

When thinking about layers, they tend to give more volume at the root, as the hair is cut shorter and lighter - this then makes the ends thinner so wouldn’t be the best option for you if your hair is quite thin.
The best way to create thicker looking hair is to have the ends cut quite bluntly, with the back slightly shorter than the front to make the hair fall forwards and create the illusion of thicker and longer hair.
Graduation builds weight which will in turn make your hair look thicker.
At the moment, blunt cut long bobs are really popular, especially those that are all one length - taking into consideration your face shape and the way your hair falls, this could be a great option for you.

Colouring your hair a darker colour (brown) with extenuate the re-growth it might be worth taking your shade a little lighter or even considering a scattering of high-lights. If you really want to stay dark then just colour your roots combing gently into the mid-lengths this should protect your hair from excessive dryness from over-processing and colour build-up. ...More >

If you are colouring your hair at home, although I would advise to have your hair coloured professionally, if you prefer to do it yourself look for hair colourant that contains no ammonia (ammonia free). Ensure you use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week, this doesn’t have to be an ordeal simply cleanse your hair with a colour protection shampoo, rinse and apply a small amount of mask to the mid-lengths and ends - leave for 5 mins max and rinse then apply a small amount of your regular conditioner - this seals in the moisture from the mask - rinse and dry as normal. Your hair should be glossy and renewed in no time.

Using products packed with protein is the first thing that springs to mind - however in this case you may have overdone the protein on top of severely damaged hair - making the hair even more brittle. Because of the intensity of protein on the hair it isn’t recommended for long-term use and should be reviewed at this point. I would thoroughly recommend using Kerastase Nutritive range, which is intensely moisturising without protein. After 6 weeks move back onto a repair programme: Use the Kerastase Resistance Bain Force Architecte (shampoo) and Ciment Anti-Usure (conditioner) for every wash, and the Electric Intensive Treatment Masque every 7 days. If you blowdry or use other heated styling tools I would highly recommend the use of Kerastase Resistance Ciment Thermique. If you do not use heated styling tools, the Elixir Ultime moringa immortel (Green) would be the recommended product, it is designed to condition damaged hair and can be used on wet or dry.

Give this programme 12 weeks and with regular trims your hair will be tip top in no time!
