New Year Hairstyle Trends from Sally Montague
SPRING/SUMMER 2015 HAIRSTYLING TRENDS BY ANGEL MONTAGUE-SAYERS, ART DIRECTOR SALLY MONTAGUE HAIR GROUP AND UK CREATIVE AMBASSADOR, CLOUD NINEThe Spring/Summer season is always my favourite, in both fashion and hair terms. From delicate braids to comb-marked chignons, it always feels fresh and serene. The collections this season were no exception, with a range of trends that can be easily recreated on clients.
The anti-blowdry was debuted by the models walking at Victoria Beckham. Hair was seriously au naturel with flatter roots, wispy ends and barely a splash of hair product. On the flip side, Diane von Furstenberg and Tom Ford encouraged heavily side-parted hair with larger than life ends and heavy roots, which is an ideal progression for clients who usually favour the big blowout.
Beautiful ethereal braids rocked the runway at Michael Kors, finished with a lived-in, mussed-up texture that hung low around the nape of the neck. Moschino stole the show, exhibiting the most talked about hair of the season in a puff of pink, where the catwalk was filled with exaggerated peroxide locks and teased tendrils.
Waves were everywhere this season and all had a carefree, subtle vibe. From Jonathan Saunders and Mary Katrantzou, to Narciso Rodriguez, Chloé and Burberry Prorsum, this isn't a trend to ignore. The whimsical waves that really caught my eye were seen at Vera Wang. Showing a refreshing take on a summer staple, the waves were finished with intricate rumpled braids that were visible just around the neckline.
The PE ponytail from season's past continued into the Spring/Summer season and was kept simple and chic. Showcased by leading designers including Alexander Wang and Jason Wu, the low slung, tousled pony was either finished with a sharp side parting, or gelled through the roots for a streamlined effect. Balmain and Prabal Gurung saw girls with heavily marked wet looks while 3.1 Phillip Lim saw heavily swept chignons and over-exaggerated hairlines.
Over at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the multi topknot was showcased with hair bound into a 90s inspired ‘do, creating a taught Mohawk shape. Why have one when you could have four?
