Frances asks:
I have patchy grey hair and have had it coloured all over using L'Oreal Majirel dark Blonde by my home visit hairdresser who I have used for many years but the result is always the same - the colour doesn't last and the crown always looks a different colour from the rest of my hair. Also it's limp and dry after the first wash. Is their a brand of colour that you could recommend where the colour would stay in longer and with more body?

It sounds like your hair maybe very resistant to colour, so after a short period of time the colour fades very quickly. You could try having your hair pre softened, which will help open the cuticles of the hair and hopefully the colour will penetrate deeper.

I would also recommend trying Wella Koleston Perfect colour range to see if you get a better result.

Lorna asks:
I have had the same hair style for 4 years, just at the middle of my shoulder blades, layered and a mid brown with blonde highlights, I have an oval face, I want a mid length cut and maybe an auburn colour, would my hair appear thicker as it looks slightly limp and flat would a cut help?

A hair cut can make almost any hair look and feel thicker or thinner depending on the style. Also colour can make your hair appear fuller and thicker too, sometimes as hair grows longer it can feel shapeless, dull, heavy and limp so by bringing your length up and playing with a few layers it can soon lift your appearance and give you a fuller bodied yet younger look.

Go for it!

Michelle asks:
My hair is thick and long, so can occasionally get greasy, but since I have coloured it has been limp and lifeless, with an excess of oil at the roots. Are there any shampoos or treatments available to cleanse my hair whilst maintaining the colour?

Your colour service may have left your body feeling like it needs to replace sebum (oil). What I would do first is

Wash your hair with a mild shampoo (not for greasy hair)?
While shampooing only give your hair a light massage, and try not to wash it every day as this will increase your sebum production.
You need a certain amount of oil on your scalp and if you are removing it all every day with shampooing then your body will try and replace it quicker as it is getting the message that your scalp is dry. Also after shampooing on the final rinse use cool water to cool down your scalp. Also use a light spray leave in conditioner and only apply this to your mid lengths and ends ensuring it does not come into contact with your scalp. Please try the above first as this may well sort out you problem after the chemical colour service you have just had
