Avoid hairspray and gels, as they can stick to the scalp and cause dandruff.
Use less potent shampoos and conditioners. Milder formulas can be the key to reducing dandruff.
Blow-dry your hair thoroughly after washing. Blow-drying your hair at home can minimize these negative effects of natural drying hair.
Avoid tying up wet hair to avoid dandruff.
Apply coconut or olive oil to lengths and ends. Avoid the scalp as humidity causes the scalp to get naturally oily anyway. Do this weekly too if you have dryer, coarser hair.
Choose a hairstyle that is easy to manage, not one where you regularly require styling irons.
Understand your hair type and seek professional advice on what steps to take to achieve the best protection for your hair.
Trim your hair regularly. This makes your hair easier to manage and free of split ends
Chlorine-filled pool water can leave your hair feeling rough and unhealthy. Try and avoid swimming activities or exposure to similar chemicals during these months.
And most importantly — Eat right for hair. Protein filled foods such as fish, nuts, spinach and Greek-yoghurt contain all the right nutrients to keep your hair looking thick and healthy all through the summer season!
How to get the perfect beach look this summer:
Beach hair is that effortlessly sexy hair that looks like its naturally beautiful and hasn’t been styled. It’s the kind of style that looks better when it’s not perfect.
To get the beach look spritz your hair with water or towel dry after washing. Make a few fat braids before going to bed and in the morning undo them, run your fingers through your hair or use a wide tooth comb to get that undone textured look. Alternatively, try wrapping random sections of hair around giant tongs, don’t wrap all the hair, just pick certain sections to keep the look haphazard and textured, remember volume should be on the ends not on the roots.”
The best ways to protect your hair from the sun
When your hair is exposed to extra stress from the summer sun, it’s imperative to minimize the damage from the start. Make sure you use a leave-in conditioner or spray your hair with UV protection.
Covering your hair with a hat will also help block damaging rays. Hair is most vulnerable when sunbathing as it is often forgotten - if it’s not protected, hair will dry out causing split ends and fading to the colour.
Shampoo your hair thoroughly after swimming to rinse the chlorine out, try to deep condition your hair at least once a week in the summer for extra moisture, also keep your ends moisturized,
Keep your hair trimmed every four to six weeks as split ends can be especially problematic during the summer months, this can help to minimize breakage, dryness and frizz.
