Festival Hair
Well, we’ve finally seen a glimpse of the warmer weather, and at Barrie Stephen Hair that’s enough to get us turning our thoughts to wellies, live music, afternoons in the sun and most importantly, festival styling. As the UK season prepares to kick off here are some ideas for an on-trend summer look!
A beautiful array of candy hues is certainly making waves in the industry and you can be sure to see some incredible shades gracing the hair of the festival elite this year. Kelly Osbourne leads the way with her flawless lilac tresses with a shimmering touch of silver seen glinting as the light hits her hair. Fresh for 2013 we will also see flashes of striking Raspberry and Blueberry too.
Style Tip: Think ice cream parlour and 1950s fashion. Team beautiful candy coloured pastel hair with vintage skirts, brightly coloured sunglasses, and eye-catching red lips!
Suits: Bestival – the funky dress-up festival
Festival hair doesn’t always have to be about long wavy locks and braids! The late, great Vidal Sassoon was the king of super sharp crops and bobs and the Mod look can be maintained at Glasto, Reading or whatever festival you are heading to. The key is to book in for a cut right before you go to make sure lines are both sharp and clean. A stash of hairpins to sweep a heavy fringe to one side and lock it into place for the day is essential, as is dry shampoo (especially for the last couple of days!)
Style Tip: Dramatic eyes are synonymous with the Mod era so remember to pack your blackest eyeliner! Stick to fitted, androgynous clothing choices and you will complete the look perfectly. And bring your sunnies to glam it up. Also think mussed up rock chick hair – it’s compulsory at Glasto – just think Kate Moss
Suits: Glastonbury – the classic, cool kid festival
2013 is all about paying homage to the Grunge scene of the 1990s with grown out colour taking centre stage. The key to the look is to keep hair looking unfinishe with plenty of movement, texture and braided detail. Allow darker roots to grow through with lighter ends and recreate the grunge era with ease by spraying a little texturizing spray to the ends and allowing hair to dry naturally for that desirable edgy finish. Perfect for getting ready in a tent!
Style Tip: 90s Grunge was all about highly wearable fashion; a worn-looking vest teamed with a denim jacket is a perfect classic look. If you have lighter hair then be sure to pack a colour bug - the ideal way to get the dip-dye look without any commitment. Choose from an array of bright colours and simply wash out when you’re done! Just go with the natural flow of your hair – perfect for styling without a mirror and wear with lots of tousled confidence.
Suits: Coachella – the boho babes festival of choice
Our trend forecaster and resident Art Director Neil Smith says; “2013 is all about the merging of eras, and what better place to showcase this than at a music festival. With a line-up of acts from current chart toppers to The Rolling Stones at Glastonbury, it really is the perfect setting to experiment with styles that transcend time such as 50s Glamour, 60s Mod and 90s Grunge.”
