Ishoka Hairdressing and Beauty,
Coming together to do something for charity can be great for a salon team for so many reasons. Not only is it good to give back to your local community and raise money and awareness of good causes that do valuable work, it can also be great for team building, not to mention the sense of achievement and satisfaction you get from knowing you’ve done something truly worthwhile. For these reasons we try to incorporate supporting charities into our everyday salon life.
We were very proud when our Senior Beauty Therapist, Chery Mitchell decided to run the Edinburgh Marathon for the Charlie House Appeal – a locally based children’s charity that engages in projects and activities to support children with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions. It’s a charity that’s very close to home so it means a lot to the Ishoka team. Chery had never done anything like this before but she had wanted to run a marathon since she was little and her family, friends and Ishoka team members gave her the final push and gave her the confidence to know she could do it. She had been in training for the big day for months and was looking forward to facing the challenge, raising money and making a difference. We all got behind her, holding a bake sale in the salon to raise money and our clients were only too happy to sponsor her and support her. She trained hard and she put everything into it. She did us all proud. It was tough, as you can imagine, but she finished and helped to raise a great sum for a great charity.
As a team we’ve been busy throughout the year raising money for Grampian Children’s Leukemia Research and we’re pleased to say we’ve raised a total of £3300. We reached this amazing total with a variety of initiatives including our client’s favourite, ‘Stars On The Tree’. Our clients each paid £1 to buy a star to decorate our Christmas tree and after Christmas all the stars were entered into a raffle. We got other local businesses involved and the prizes included a stay on a 5* B&B; and a luxury watch. We had a great reaction to this and it felt good to get the whole community involved. We also have an on-going commitment to the Teenage Cancer Trust who provide wigs for those undergoing treatment. We offer a special styling service and not only does this have an incredible effect on the confidence of the teenagers, the whole team have commented on how rewarding it feels to do something like this.
Bring the whole team together by organising a charity event in your salon. There are so many great charities that rely on donations to do their valuable work and there are many ways to get involved, whether it’s a bake off in the salon, a sponsored run, a raffle, or someone doing a Jessie J and shaving their hair off. There are lots of charities that would appreciate your support. Dig deep, give back and have fun all in the name of charity!
