Pooja asks:
Hi there. well basically i have fine hair but lots of it. i do
have staright hair, but not totally and now especially with layers i tend to
starighten it often. The hair that suits me the most is usally in the summer
time when after starightening for 2 days on the third day my hair looks
perfect. It is stick staright hair, which structures my face, and the hair
looks like individual strands, as it may have a bit of grease that looks
good. This type of perfect hair happens probably twice a year if im lucky. I
want this to happen all the time, but i just dont know what products to use.
Normally when i wash it , my hair becomes thicker, and wheni starighten it,
that stick straight hair is not there, and if i leave it for a few days to
geta bit greasy fror individual strand, then my hair looks so greasy, that
i got to ewash it off.So please tell me what to do to, to get the perfect
look im going for, please include, what u recommed for shampoo, conditioner,
serum, finishing spray etc. Currently my hair looks ok, as i wash it , put a
relaxing balm, then blow dry it, and use ghd iron with spray. However the
spray thickens my hair again, and gives it a washed look. i then put abit
of wax on. Sumtimes my straight hair stays , but most of the time it doesnt,
especially in winter and living in britain. I hope i havent confused
you.lol. please please help me out, to get the perfect individual strand,
stick staright hair look. cheers

Hi Pooja, you are right to assume that using the correct products will make all the difference. Razzamatazz strait time is a great product for keeping your hair nice and stick straight. And to finish off the Razzamatazz Glitz will really work, but use this sparingly. Diana

I have recently moved to an area where the house has a water softener. My hair has gone dull, lifeless, dry, lacking shine and I never feel like I have rinsed it enough times so am probably damaging the hair shaft even more. Please can you tell me what I can do to combat this? Does soft water ruin hair? Any suggestions would be really helpful.

I would recommend you invest in a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. The Kérastase Nutritive Bain Satin 1 Shampoo and Lait Vital Conditioner will add back some of the moisture your water softener has washed out. Soft water doesn’t necessarily damage your hair, but you may notice it can still feel a bit greasy on fine hair. I would also recommend rinsing your hair in cool water to close the hair shaft.
Leon Volney asks:
Hi there in need of help badly, I have fine curly mixed raced hair (half Caribbean half English) and I’ve looked everywhere for tips and tricks on how to style it and look after it but everywhere says something different and almost always the opposite.
My question is, what is the best products to use and when for fine curly mixed hair?
My current routine is, cleansing conditioner once a day, deep mask conditioner every other day (both left in for 10/20 mins) Then for styling, a lil bit of Coconut hair oil then mid-hold hair wax for shaping.
This normally leaves my hair looking amazing with looseish, controlled curls for around 15 minutes before the curls retract and the shape just goes and I’m left with sorta tight, frizzy curls and no shape,
PPPPPPPPLEASE HELP!!

Hi Leon,
When it comes to curly mixed-race hair such as yours, finding the right products for a suitable care and styling routine can be a real challenge. Afro-Caribbean hair is dryer than Caucasian, containing only around a third of the moisture. You won’t be surprised to discover that mixed-race hair is somewhere between the two, and here lies the problem; because products designed for Afro-Caribbean hair can over-moisturise mixed-race hair, leaving it heavy and greasy, while Caucasian-specific products can strip away natural oils, creating dryness and frizz. ...More >
If hair is too dry it will always frizz no matter what you put in it, so my advice would be to always use a good high-moisture shampoo and conditioner, and I think Kerastase’s Fondant Magistral from their Nutrative range should provide your hair with the right moisture levels. I’d also recommend a leave-in conditioning treatment, which will nourish hair all day long without causing build-up. It’s far more effective than products that need rinsing out, and again I’d look to the Nutrative range.
When it comes to styling your curls I’d suggest a quality gel-based product rather than wax, as it’s far more effective at keeping a curl in its form. Redken have a great range called Curvaseous, and I’ve found that combing their ‘Full Swirl’ and ‘Ringlet’ perfecting lotions works really well.
Get the hair wet and fully cover with a layer of Ringlet, then any extra frizzy areas apply Full Swirl over the top of any extra-frizzy areas. Next, finger-twist the hair in sections to create something similar to small curly braids, and let them air dry (remember natural air drying is far, far more effective for retaining the shape of a curl). Once your hair is nearly dry, tip your head upside down and shake out the curls. This should give them more definition and a lighter bounce.
Lastly, always use your fingers to comb through and remove tangles gently, and to separate hair while conditioner is in and hairis still wet. Never towel dry, as this will disrupt the natural curl pattern you want to enhance.
Good luck Leon. I hope this helps give your locks the looser look you’ve been searching for!
