Revlon was founded in 1932, by Charles Revson and his brother Joseph, along with a chemist, Charles Lachman, who contributed the "L" in the REVLON name.

Starting with a single product - a nail enamel unlike any before it - the three founders pooled their meagre resources and developed a unique manufacturing process.

In only six years the company became a multi-million dollar organisation, launching what was to become one of the most recognised cosmetics names in America and around the world.
Since 1932, Revlon has developed a long-standing reputation as a trendsetter in the world of cosmetics, skin care, fragrance, and personal care. Revlon's vision has always been to provide glamour, excitement and innovation through affordable quality products.

1950's: Following the war, Revlon launched twice-yearly nail enamel and lipstick promotions tied to seasonal clothing fashions. Their "Fire & Ice" advertising campaign was very successful. Revlon also turned to television sponsorship to boost sales. Towards the end of 1956, Revlon was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

1960's: Revlon laid the ground work for its highly successful international presence in the 60's, bringing the "American Look" to the rest of the world through advertising featuring U.S. models.

1970's: 1973 saw the introduction of Charlie® fragrance, designed for a young, working woman market and by the mid 70's, Charlie® was the No. 1 Fragrance in the world. Revlon sales figures passed the $1 billion mark in 1977.

In 1978, Revlon entered the world of hairdressing for the first time, when they purchased a company called Henry Colomer. Recognized for its prestige, service tradition and innovative spirit, Henry Colomer was the leading provider in Spain of services and products to hairdressers. The company led the way in colouring and perm technology and it revolutionized the industry of hairdressing equipment.

1980's: Carlos Colomer was appointed Chairman of Revlon, S.L. in 1981 and soon after, Chairman of the whole of Europe.

Henry Colomer created the Revlon Professional brand in Spain. In this way, Revlon, S.L. was consolidated in the country as one of the leading beauty and personal care companies, creating style and fashion through its products.

In 1985, Revlon was sold to a subsidiary of MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings. In 1987 Almay joined the Revlon line-up.

1990
: Revlon introduced the first transfer resistant lip colour which led to a full ColorStayTM Collection of transfer-resistant products.
The company closed the gap on its closest competitors and reached a dramatic goal - the No. 1 brand in mass colour cosmetics.

Revlon doesn't only care about women's looks; they care about women's lives.

Revlon has championed women's health by devoting financial and employee resources in support of medical research programs, physician training, clinical care, as well as education and awareness initiatives.

Since 1990, Revlon has given over $65 million towards these programs

2000: The Colomer Group purchased Revlon Professional Products Worldwide licence from Revlon, Inc. The price of the sale was not disclosed.

Purchasing the Revlon Professional unit in 2000, was something of a complete circle for Colomer. In 1979, Colomer had sold part of its family business to Revlon.... then 21 years later they bought it back.

The Colomer Group is based in Barcelona, Spain and New York, being a worldwide company.
