AUTUMN TRENDS

AUTUMN TRENDS

From Richard Thompson, President of the Fellowship For British Hairdressing

“Two themes will dominate this Autumn and the general feel is a return to clean, sharp lines.

“The first look is a homage to the luxuriousness of film noir, but with amodern, rebellious twist. The hair is worn super-full – a style that is achieved by spraying wet hair with blow-drying spray, drying it, putting in pin curls and drying the roots separately. Girls with curls can also make the most of this look – think big but casually undone.

The second look is ultra-feminine but ultra-modern; a bob with a contemporary twist. Key words here are simple and clean. Inspirations are Uma Thurman’s Pulp Fiction look and silent screen icon Louise Brooks. New cutting techniques make the bob fresh, and exciting again - forget chopping and cutting into the hair – cuts are sleek and blunt. Choose gamine or vamp, according to your length.

Colour is key, helping to bring these looks firmly into the 21st century with streaks and a riot of contrasting tones. Rich, burnished tones are contemporised with a hint of blue-red, while browns are highlighted with black and nearly-black browns. Cooler browns are mixed with warm browns to bring this style bang up to date. Blondes can take inspiration from Gwen Stefani’s golden apricot tones or Nico’s shocking opal blonde.”
