Khadija asks:

I started relaxing my hair like 6 or 7 months ago and at first everything seemed fine. I plaited my hair in December and after loosing it I discovered a drastic change in my hair. One side had more hair than the other. The real problem is that the other side seems like it has been cut or something I’m really confused and don’t know what to do and I don’t want to cut my hair.

It sounds like your hair has been over processed to me. If they leave it on for too long, or use it on your hair when it is already in a bad condition it will result in hair breakage and loss. You must stop having your hair relaxed and let it grow out. Use lots of leave in conditioners that will re build the structure of your hair, and eat well. Taking multi vitamins and drinking lots of water will improve the overall health of your hair, skin and nails.

Becki asks:

I have thick hair and I straighten it but it always looks so flat is there any techniques I could use or tell me the best product to use.

Constantly straightening your hair will thin it over time which isn’t a good thing. There is nothing wrong with having thick hair, you just need to know how to manage and maintain it in order to get the best results. I recommend using a specific shampoo and conditioner for thicker hair in order to tame and also use a treatment such a my Poker Straight Intensive Treatment which helps put the love back into battered hair which is styled a lot. Keep the volume and thickness to a certain extent by blow-drying your hair in layers after washing and use a paddle brush. Afterwards, use your straighteners to go over the ends to get a sleek, straight finish. Always use heat protection spray to stop your ends from breaking and finish with a shine spray for a glossy, gorgeous look!

Mini asks:

I have to straighten my hair since its thick but what should I apply to give it a final touch to make it shine

Before you straighten your hair, remember you should always use heat protection spray to stop hair from becoming damaged and weak. In the long run your hair will be healthier and shinier too. To add shine after styling try Shine Head Spray Shine. It leaves hair glossy, shiny and looking GORGEOUS!!’

NM asks:

I know that my question is not really related to hair problems, etc. but I would like to know; how can I style my hair if I am wearing a black lace dress? And my other question is: my daughter is 14 years old and she wants to dye her hair (not much lighter than her natural dark brunette hair), though I’m not sure if I should let her dye it or not, what do you think?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with colouring your hair but once you do colour it, you rarely stop so this is something to bear in mind. Coloured hair needs more care to ensure it stays in the best possible condition as it is more prone to moisture loss and damage so is likely to cost more in the long run too to upkeep. I would suggest you try getting your daughter to keep her hair natural for the time being until she is a little older as you don’t want her to do something she might regret. As for your query about a hair style when wearing a black lace dress. I think a simple but classic up do - think Audrey Hepburn is always a winner!

Altaf asks:

I use to have long hair, after I had surgery I lost a lot of blood and my hair to, I have tried simply everything to make it thick and grow, but I end up loosing more hair, what do I do?

Hair Loss can be due to a number of things stress being a major one, if your body is still under stress and you are using particular drugs this could have an adverse effect on hair growth. I would suggest at this minute you move away from wanting it long and thick again, work with what you have naturally. Aim to get a style you really like within the current length and then allow it to naturally grow. Don’t force the issue, this can make it worse. There are supplements out there but they don’t work for everybody.

My scalp is very sensitive, I have dandruff and hair loss from front portion. Suggest some shampoo and serum for that. Please.

I would suggest popping down and having a chat with your stylist who can consult with you on a more personal basis, as without pictures I can only generalise. My advice for people suffering from dry hair would be to limit the number of times a week you wash your hair so your natural oils aren’t removed. Avoid using highly perfumed and product heavy hair care as these can irritate and cause build up which can lead to dandruff. Best to book in for an appointment though.

Tara asks:

I have been dying my naturally dark hair for years but I have a lot of grey regrowth. I don’t want to go really blonde but would I be able to make it a lot lighter for a change. I haven’t dyed it for about 2 months and there are a lot of grey roots.

Grey has become such a statement hair colour and is being embraced on the catwalks and in editorial shoots - but I completely understand taking the plunge and working the grey is daunting!

If you do opt to colour your hair, pick a tone one shade or two lighter than your original color. Going too light or too dark will make you look older. To test the look, try a semi-permanent solution that lasts 6 to 12 shampoos before going for lasting colour. And if you are still keen to go light, avoid an all over light colour, ask your stylist to add some subtle highlights into your new look.
You know the reason we all go grey? To keep it as simple as possible, grey hair represents the loss of pigmentation within the hair shaft. The hair strand often becomes wiry as it is sheathed in more cuticle than most other hair types. How good you look with grey hair is determined by its texture, plus how it goes with the tone of your skin and eyes, so regardless of your colour changes, the condition of your hair is the most important thing to look after. Greying hair is the start of a natural lightening process to which you should adapt the colors of your clothes and makeup, embrace it!!

Rachel asks:

Over the last 7 years I have been having Lou colour (demi) to cover my grey hair. In March I was suddenly came out in a terrible allergic reaction to a food I ate (never had it before). The extreme breathing issues are much improved but I am ridiculously sensitive to everything including hair colour. I am thinking of having low light by foil but to be honest even with a skin test I am terrified of a serious reaction. After searching the web for months this seems to be a really big issue for a lot of women. Can you suggest any type of maybe colour wash to cover the grey? I don’t mind washing it in each week? I have tried colour mousse but guess what - allergic!

It sounds like most colour that contains ammonia is causing a problem try looking for organic colours these may be a big help COLOUR EMULSION FOR GREY HAIR
Colour Emulsion is a permanent colour- ammonia and peroxide free. It covers up to 100% grey hair. Based on an algae compound, the emulsion acts by coating of the hair shaft, leaving a glossy protecting film Colour Emulsion has no lightening power, it does not contain any ammonia or peroxide.

Andy asks:

I am probably asking this in the wrong place, but no matter how often I ask people no-one gives me a good answer and its a simple question. What is the difference between all hair products like, wax, gel, gum, clay, putty etc. I use VO5 texturising gum at the moment but I would like to be better informed about the qualities of the others. Thanks for reading your reply will be anticipated greatly

What a great question. We can’t really talk about other companies because, the names they sometimes call their products are totally irrelevant to how they perform. We would suggest looking at the product benefits on the packaging rather than the actual names. We have just launched hairbond>Hairbond our first two Hairbond products (Moulder and Sculptor) around the UK last month and our brand concept is that we find and test the best hair products on the market in professional salons, and research ways how to improve them even more, e.g product performance, smell, packaging etc. We also only use UK manufacturers.

Here is a brief description to how they work on the hair: Moulder – Thick dry product that does not look greasy and, gives great shape and hold. Sculptor -Wet look shine that leaves the hair with texture and a gloss finish without drying out
