HOW DO I FIND A GOOD HAIRDRESSER
“How do I find a good hairdresser”
One of the common questions I am asked by clients is…
“how do I find a good salon and stylist”?
Well this is what I would suggest:
I know that on average 28% of clients are considering a change of salon, and 80% of those say they are going to change because there current salon /stylist never suggests anything new.
My first piece of advice would be, if you are happy with the quality of hairdressing and overall customer service, be straight with your stylist and say “I have been considering a change of look – any suggestions? If they look puzzled and after discussion cannot advise a suitable alternative, now is definitely the time to change salon.
So, how do you find a new salon? Well this is what I would suggest:
Recommendation:
Asking friends is always top of the list. Find out which salon they use, but also ask how they feel about their stylist, as they may have similar views to you i.e. bored with their look and fed up as no suggestions for change are forthcoming.
Research:
Use the internet to find comments and information, always taking into account that four times as many people will report a negative comment than a positive one!
Don’t just book an appointment:
Once you have a salon short list, I would recommend that you call in and ask for a consultation. If they can accommodate you immediately, or, are too busy and ask you to come back, that is perfectly acceptable, however, if they don’t appear to be interested then my suggestion would be to leave and move on to the next salon on your list.
The Consultation:
This should take place at a styling station. The stylist will probably say something like, so, “how do you normally have your hair”? or “what would you like doing today”? at this point you should give them the opportunity to make some suggestions saying something like, so, “what new look can you recommend? If they come up with some good ideas/changes or ask questions, you should give them a chance and hopefully you are getting somewhere, however if this is not the case then you should leave!
What you really want to hear is something like “Do you have any ideas or are you open to suggestions” This kind of opener during the consultation means you have probably found a stylist who has ideas but has also given you the opportunity to give your input as well.
Getting it right:
Once you have visited at least 2-3 salons you can then make your choice, ensuring you have taken into account each salon atmosphere/checked out other clients’ hair, and overall you have considered if that particular salon will potentially suit your requirements.
Remember:
Without good communication, your chances of getting what you want are very low.
Good luck, and have fun....
