A lesson in Extensions
A lesson in hair extensions from Hair by RA hair extension experts
Hair extensions may seem like a new innovation in a high tech world, but the truth is that hair extensions date back to ancient Egyptian times when men and women wore wigs. Since these early times, hair pieces have gone in and out of style up until the present, where toupees are out, but hair extensions are definitely in. The 1800s was a time when artificial hair was frowned upon, but the Romantic era brought on a style of elaborate Apollo knots and hair pieces. Other people like Victorian and Edwardian women wore extremely gaudy false hair to mimic a pompadour hairstyle.
Moving forward to the 1920s, thin, short straight hair was all the rage, so the presence of hair extensions took a dive. The 1940s brought long hair back into fashion, so hair extensions became the trendy style. Another 20 years later and big hair was back in style again. Extravagant hair pieces were used to create fashionable updos.
Through the 1970s and 80s, wigs constructed from both faux and real human hair allowed women to achieve the big look that everyone had at the time. Everyone from movie stars and singers to average mid-income women became involved in the hair extension scene in the 1990s. The new affordability allowed everyone to copy the ever-changing looks of famous people. When one week a movie star has a cropped bob cut and the next she is sporting long flowing locks, it is clear that hair extensions are at play in the hairdo. This kind of change cannot be masked as natural, but it is certainly not frowned upon. On the contrary, thick voluptuous hair is very much in style right now. Long locks full of body and volume are the hottest way to transform your current look into something even more fabulous. |
