Love them or hate them, celebrities are responsible for leading the way when it
comes to hair colour trends. From Cheryl's deep brunette to Kate Bosworth's creamy
blonde and of course, Florence Welch's fiery red, girls everywhere turn to the
stars for colour inspiration.
The hairdressing industry's leading publication Hairdressers Journal International
has launched a campaign to "Keep Colour Professional". The campaign, backed by
the world's innovators in colour products - Aveda, Clynol, Goldwell, L'Oreal Professionnel,
Paul Mitchell, Redken, Schwarzkopf Professional, TIGI and Wella Professionals
is also endorsed by the UK's leading colour technicians including three times
winner of British Colour Technician of the Year, Lisa Shepherd.
Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr
is delighted with the response to the campaign.
"We are working with the colour houses and their colour ambassadors to ensure
professional colour is at the forefront of every consumer's mind when thinking
about hair colour. A high percentage of women in the UK colour their hair not
only to cover
grey but also to enhance it. The professional colourist can change hair from drab
to dazzling, maintaining shine and make you feel a million dollars. There's no
reason not to visit a professional colourist, in salon."
So to make sure you know your copper from caramel and platinum from honey, the
Keep Colour Professional's ambassadors share their favourite celebrity colour
looks.
Cheryl Cole
"Cheryl Cole has a lovely rich warm colour that brings out her skin tone and her
eyes. She hasn't tried to do too much with the colour, she's done just what suits
her."
- Brett Walker, Head Colourist and Manager, Michael Barnes salon
Madonna
"Madonna has been blonde for so long and has pulled off numerous gorgeous shades
- from alpine ice to honey and caramel, she is the queen of the blondes."
- Luke Walton, Rainbow Room International
Florence Welch
"Florence Welch without a doubt. It's bang on trend, and this season's must have.
It's all about rich shiny, silky hair. The luxurious satin red shade complements
the skin tone. Making her hair colour a showstopper." -
Anya Dellicompagni, Director of Hairdressing, Francesco Group
Beyoncé
"Beyoncé has a beautiful hair colour that reflects the warmth in her skin. The
level of colour is very complementary and her hair is healthy and shiny."
Paul Mitchell Editorial Director and celebrity stylist Lucie Doughty
Gwen Stefani
"Gwen Stefani's bling bling blonde always looks well maintained and most
importantly never looks fried thanks to regular Paul Mitchell PM Shines treatments."
Paul Mitchell Artistic Director Stephanie Kocielski
Victoria Beckham
"I am not going to name any specific celebrity as there are just so many right
now that look so fantastic, but I will say that the reason they all look so good
is that they all have their colour done regularly, they utilise the best products
available and they invest in constantly looking after their hair.
One of the keys to celebrity hair is that it is flattering in some way to them,
whether it be Lady Gaga, or Victoria Beckham is that the hair always looks immaculate.
Spend an extra 10 minutes styling, do an extra treatment a week and visit your
salon a week earlier, and you too will have celebrity hair."
Adam Browne, Artistic Director, Redken
Fearne Cotton
"Fearne Cotton shows how to rock blonde with confidence and Jennifer
Aniston proves blondes can be sexy, sophisticated and understated at the same
time."
Carly Roberts, Manager and Master Technician, Marc Antoni
Nicola Roberts
"A celebrity hair colour I'm loving would have to be Nicola Roberts
of Girls Aloud's muted salmon colour. This was so ahead of its time and is still
as beautiful as when she first unveiled it."
Jason Welch, Colour Specialist, L'Oreal
Nicole Ritchie & Emma
Watson
"Nicole Ritchie has moved her hair colour in a big way for 2010, I think it looks
lovely and really complements her. Emma Watson has gone lighter and brighter,
it looks soft and shiny with gorgeous multi-tonal colours."
Amanda Dicker, Artistic Director, The Chapel
Helena Christensen & Cheryl Cole
"For
brunettes I love Cheryl Cole's chocolate brown and Helena Christensen's heather
brown. Paloma Faith and Florence for the fashion stopping flame red hair and blondes
have been made more exciting with Lady Ga Ga, pushing golden blondes to new places
with fun yellow tones" - Le-anne McNaught, Creative Director, Cheynes Hairdressing
Giselle
Bundchen & Katy Perry
"Too
many celebrities to mention as many get it right constantly. From Giselle with
the perfect sunkissed lights to Katy Perry pulling off gorgeous vintage brunette."

Ellie Goulding
"We're loving the Brit girls! Florence Welch has a great warm russet
tone that we loving at the moment as well as the perfect fringe!
Ellie Goulding is wearing the latest ash (dare we say almost grey) tones that
work commercially as an orchid blonde."
Sarah Brookes, Tigi European Technical Director, TIGI
Gwyneth Paltrow & Reese Witherspoon
"Gwyneth
has lovely pale skin with a slight pink undertone so can easily wear this soft
apricot colour and it sets off her green eyes. Reese Witherspoon's platinum blonde
highlights, which look amazing with her cool blue eyes. Also her hair is not totally
blonde all over, it has some depth so it still looks rich and healthy. Sarah Jessica
Parker is showing off the sun blushed look that I see a lot of in the salon for
spring. Lighter underneath to expose a sun-kissed look.
Cameron Diaz's colour is gorgeous, it has the vanilla and caramel tones that I
predict for the transition to summer from deeper winter shades." - Gina Conway,
Ambassador of Hairdressing, Aveda Lifestyle Salons
Alexa Chung & Lady
Sovereign
"Lady Sovereign. It may have come up against some harsh critique in the
Big Brother house but she is way ahead of trend mixing A/W 2011 metallics and
texture, creating a very tribal vibe. On a more current natural or naked trend
- Alexa Chung gets it spot on with her soft blend of movement and muted bronze
tones." - Sean Nolan, Creative Director, Burlingtons
"My
favourite celeb colours of the moment are Coco Rocha and Florence Welch. I'm really
into reds at the moment and I adore the way reds make blue/green eyes really pop."
Sharon Peake, Salon Director, Ethos Hair
Cat Deeley, Emma Bunton
and Dannii
"Cat Deeley always has the best looking blonde hair - sometimes a bit
lighter, sometimes a bit honey, but it always looks shiny and healthy - which
is by no means easy on blondes!
Having said that we have had an awful lot of people requesting Emma Bunton's colour
and style since she was on Dancing on Ice!
Dannii Minogue - for being the perfect example of how shiny and lustrous brunette
hair should be!" -
Lisa Shepherd, Managing Director and Colour Doctor, Lisa Shepherd Salons
Sarah Jessica Parker
& Madonna
"Madonna - she is the perfect colour chameleon - never afraid to change
and always bold in her colour (and style choices). Sarah Jessica Parker - for
showing how curly girls can have colour too!"
Tim Scott-Wright, Salon Director, Lisa Shepherd Salons
Jennifer Aniston & Cheryl Cole
"Cheryl Cole's beautiful and natural looking shiny colour enhances
all of her features perfectly and Jennifer Aniston's gorgeous natural highlights
add warmth to match her skin colour."
Tracey Devine, Salon Director, Angels
Nicola Roberts
"I love Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts' hair at the moment. She has made
such a transition from her poker straight, vibrant red head looks of years past
and is embracing the 70s feel.
Working with her stunning natural tones, her current colour really complements
her complexion and style.
A definite style progression, this look is far more mature and very fashion led
with the colour muted to a softer and delicate tones and the cut enhancing her
hair's natural wave.
Perfectly suited to her paler complexion, this pastel apricot hue is right on
trend for Spring Summer 2010 and teamed with delicate movement, gives a beautiful
overall look."
- Christel Lundqvist, Colour Director, HOB Salons
Christina
Aguilera
"Christina Aguilera's new champagne blonde bob is stunning and adds an air of
grown up sophistication to her look reminiscent of old Hollywood movies starlets.
Dannii Minogue is the ultimate brunette, her shade choice complements her skin
perfectly and always oozes shine.
Fearne Cotton and Blake Lively's multi tonal blondes are effortlessly natural
and always look gorgeous, while Kate Bosworth's pale, creamy blonde is so now.
Paloma Faith's copper tones are soft and natural, with a hint of caramel and chestnut.
Mark Leeson, Mark Leeson Hair Body & Mind
Lily
Cole
"Jennifer Aniston - great to relate to hair colour especially when
toning down. Lilly Cole - bright copper is a favourite in the salon at the moment."
Robert Eaton, Head Colour Technician, Russell
Eaton Salons
Miranda Kerr
"Miranda Kerr. She has the sun kissed, natural look as well as the
healthy shine of well treated hair."
Julie-Anne Newton, Artistic Director and Head of Education, Regis
