Royal Wedding Update...

If we were styling Kate Middleton

Makeup artist Clare Bryce and hair stylist Chris Fordham share their beauty vision for the forthcoming Royal Wedding

All eyes will be on the royal wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton this coming spring and the fashion world is waiting with bated breath to see how the beautiful young 'princess to be' will be wearing her hair and makeup for this special day.

Kate is blessed with stunning rich brunette locks that she wears in a loose casual style, even for the official engagement interview. With fabulous skin and beautiful hazel eyes, Kate wears a number of different eye shadows and loves her black eyeliner.

As bridal styling specialists we're very aware of brides not wanting to be too different from their usual look whilst creating something special enough for the occasion. For hair, Chris suggests that Kate has a softly curled up do with some volume around the crown area to give it a vintage feel that is very popular at the moment. Large informal soft curls casually styled loosely into the nape of the neck would create a fabulous chignon.

For makeup, Clare suggests creating a classic eye with a touch of smokiness, using soft green as a base colour, which will bring out the greens within her hazel eyes. Mid brown to deep grey brown would finish the smoky effect. Clare would use a fairly strong eyeliner with a slight flick for a vintage feel to finish off her eyes. Clare would keep the rest of Kate's makeup soft with coral cheeks and nude lips, so when William first sees her, he'll be drawn into her beautiful eyes

Rumour has it that the Queen has offered Kate Princess Diana's tiara and this would certainly add the perfect finishing touch to Kate's final look.

UKH footnote: A step too far... Kate says no
TheTiara

Kate is likely to accept Diana's tiara (one doesn't say no to the Queen.) The priceless pearl and diamond Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara, originally made for Queen Mary in 1913, was passed down to Diana by the Queen. It has been kept in a Buckingham Palace safe since her death in 1997.

The Ring
Is there a pattern forming here? There already seems to be three people involved in this forthcoming marriage. While Princess Diana always referred to Camilla as the third person in her marriage to Prince Charles; Prince William and Kate appear to have the shadow of Diana inextricably linked to theirs.

It would have been such a romantic and gallant gesture if William had commissioned a new, special engagement ring for his fiancée, but he chose to give her his mother's ring with all that it symbolises.

The Wedding Dress
It has also been claimed that William wanted Kate to wear his mother's wedding dress; which even Kate has reputedly refused as a step too far.

Recently it has been revealed that Diana had a second, secret wedding dress which was never completed, but was created in case the first one was revealed to the public or damaged before her marriage to Prince Charles.

The second dress (below right), bears a striking resemblance to the first. It has the same ruffled neckline only without the lace and puff sleeves. In general, the ivory silk taffeta gown is a much simpler, more pared down version of the elaborate gown Diana did wear. According to the designers, Diana never tried it on, they never even mentioned its existence to her.

So is it possible that this second dress of Diana's could be remodelled for Kate?

Or perhaps the ivory silk taffeta might be used to create a new, less elaborate dress for her..... something borrowed......

Here are a few wedding dress styles that would look lovely on Kate

We're here to help Kate Middleton make up her mind

Kate Middleton's hairdresser Richard Ward will no doubt be entrusted with creating the ultimate wedding hairstyle for her forthcoming marriage to HRH Prince William.

Kate is frequently seen with her thick, dark hair, falling in loose waves around her shoulders. However, for the big day, and it doesn't get much bigger than a Royal Wedding - most royal watchers are expecting her hair to be swept up and away from her face.

So will Kate choose a romantic classic look, with cascading curls or opt for a more regal up do - dressed into a chignon or fancy twist. Either style would lend itself to finishing touches such as a glittering tiara and delicate flowers.

Here are some of the wedding hairstyle suggestions we have received, lovely styles that would look fantastic for Kate's special day..... with her glossy, long tresses beautifully styled.

Fairytale Princess
Dressed up, cascading waves and curls, gorgeous falling across bare shoulders:

High Society Princess
Sophisticated updo's - glamorous dressed hair, accentuates the face, adds length and elegant lines to the neck.

Here's what the experts have to say about Kate Middleton's big day...

"I think for her wedding day Kate will wear her hair half up and half down. I think the front sections will be more traditional and be taken off the face in order to hold an heirloom accessory, but the back will be down and very relaxed to show a break away from tradition and that she is still very much her own woman."

"Kate is her own person and while her style is very classic I think she will go with a more romantic look. She should style her hair into half up half down with some flowing waves creating a soft texture while keeping it very elegant and close to the style shown on her engagement."

Philip Bell, Ishoka

The Style I think Kate will opt for a classic hair up for her wedding day. She wears her hair down very regularly, so I think she will want to make a statement with her style for her big day. She will have her dress designed by a British designer and so her hair will either be a classic plait with added height at the crown or a low bun, both with soft areas around the front hair line, e.g sweeping fringe, to carry off that classic look.

The Colour

Kate has very healthy and shiny hair, the envy of many women. I think she should keep her shiny rich brown tones, but introduce some caramel highlights to soften her features and add more warmth to her skin tone. I would never advise a drastic change just before your wedding as this could end up being a stress if it does not turn out the way you would have liked.

The Products
With any updo style, preparing hair is the key to durability. Adding mousse before setting the hair on hot rollers will help to give volume. Also use hairspray for holding the style, and a light shine spray to illuminate colour.

Tips for creating the perfect Bridal style

Classic plait
1. First back comb the roots of the hair and then place in hot rollers
2. Take a horse shoe section from the area around the crown and clip out of the way.
3. Comb the hair underneath over to one side and pin with kirby grips making sure you cross over the top of the grips to secure.
4. Next, bring the other side back over the grips by rolling the hair from the ends creating a plait.
5. Secure the pleat by pinning with grips working the pins in and along the seam.
6. Mist the hair with hairspray.
