Curl Power
The
popularity of the Ashes to Ashes series set in the 80's,
has helped fuel the current trend for the permed, curly
girly look.
Whether it's a tight curl or loose wave, the celebrities
are also following suit with hair styles that are full
of fizz and sparkle.
The demand for curling aids of all kinds is really hotting
up, with crimpers, conical wands, curlers, curling tongs
and triple barrel wavers all flying off the shelves.
The next generation of |
|
straighteners are already including rounded barrels
in their design, so they offer straightening and curling
function duality.

How's
it done?
To achieve permanent curl appeal, as the word suggests,
you will need to have a perm which involves using a
perm lotion or foam, winding the hair on perm curlers
(size and direction of the wind up, will depend on the
type of wave you want) Hair type also has to be considered
when judging the amount of |
time
the perm solution is left on hair before rinsing off
and neutralising. Home perm kits should come with full
instructions and a strand test is essential, to avoid
any problems with skin irritation or texture/colour
changes. A good hair cut is important before perming.
It is always better to have a professional perm rather
than try to do it yourself, your hairdresser will know
|
|
the
right products for your hair type.
Some
loose perms can be styled without curlers, many tighter perms
will require setting on curlers after washing to get the right
look.
Hair raising?
The main disadvantage of having a perm is the 'frizz factor',
just a hint of humidity can result in a tangle situation.
So taking a shower or running to the car on a rainy day can
send you reaching for the curlers again - which can be time
consuming and inconvenient. Also, once the perm starts growing
out, the hair will be straight and the curl will drop or loose
lift. It isn't good for hair to be permed too often.

Hair
Oscars
An example of how classy and flattering the right
choice of curly style can look, is seen here at
the recent Oscars 2008 red carpet event, Jessica
Alba looked heavenly with this casually, but carefully
arranged sweep of waves, with a hair ornament
added as a finishing touch. |

Girls
just want to have fun..
Unfortunately, the over curly, bed head look can go
spectacularly off the 'cool' scale as demonstrated by
Cyndi Lauper. |

Best
of both worlds
If you don't want to take the plunge and commit to a perm
- the current popular hair trend is to wear it straight for
the day and then go curly at night or for special occasions.
A variety of glamorous looks can be created from tight tendrils
to loose waves, just by using one of the fabulous hair tools
available from UKhairdressers online store.
