Normally
based at her salon "Celeste Arnold Hair & Make Up" in Edenfield, Lancashire
- Celeste is always delighted to join the actresses and actors on
location, where each calendar is shot over a few days.
For the 2010 calendar the boys went to Liverpool and the girls visited
a location house in Hertfordshire. Listening to Celeste tell us about
the photoshoot, there's no doubt it involves a lot of work, planning
and attention to detail, but she's the first to admit it's a dream
job and she wouldn't swop it for the world.
We're delighted to bring you Celeste's story from behind the scenes
on location as she descibes how it all came together. |

The
Hollyoaks girl's
photoshoot....
"In April 09 I started our shoot with the Babes in London. It was
in a huge big modern house which is hired out by the people who live
there for photoshoots or filming etc. It was luckily a warm weekend
as a lot of the shots were done outside.
All the behind the scenes team (Gill Bowker, the head of the PR dept,
Jane Ackroyd also PR, Cassie Lomas makeup artist, and myself) have
worked together before on the last 2 years previous calendar shoots,
so we always know what is expected of us and work together really
well. It makes the days more fun, but they are still long and hard!
|
Anyway,
it's always fast paced as we have 12 different looks to do, and then
the front cover, in 3 days and we had to travel there and back from
Manchester on the first and last day so it's literally get there and
get stuck in.
I was the only hairdresser on this shoot, usually if we are nearer
to home I can take assistants with me, but due to location it was
just me.
The aim of the calendar is to make sure that each girl looks as beautiful
as possible. They always have some input on how they prefer to have
their hair and make-up styled as they are not professional models
and they have to feel as comfortable in front of the camera as they
can. Some of the new actresses had never done a photoshoot before,
so it's essential to have a relaxed atmosphere to make the photoshoot
work as well as it can.
All the girls are lovely, very professional, and we have no 'diva-ish'
behaviour. I think they all enjoy getting their hair and make-up done,
as they like it, and the results show in the calendar.
In my kit bag I have all the tools you can imagine, straighteners,
hairdryers, brushes, rollers etc as most of the girls love big, bouncy,
full and glamorous hair.
I gave each girl a goodie bag this time with, Dust It, Shine Spray,
Session Hair spray and Repair Rescue. All by Schwarzkopf and all my
favourite products."
The Hollyoaks boy's photoshoot....
"The Boys photoshoot was in Liverpool at an authentic a boxing club,
which meant it was cold and smelly and not at all glamorous! I travelled
there and back each day as it is only an hour away.
I again was the only hairdresser as the boys hair is usually pre-cut
by their own hairdresser and again I am usually just styling it, so
I didn't really need an assistant (although all the girls at my shop
wanted to come regardless!)
We had 2 winnebagos (motorhomes) outside the club to get the boys
ready as the light and the conditions of the club inside weren't ideal.
The boys are always good fun as they get on really well together and
have a laugh with us and each other. Some of them take it a little
bit more seriously than others! The ones with the buff bodies have
usually been working out prior the shoot and are still doing a few
last minute press ups before the camera is on them!
Generally the days go fast and we get all the looks done in 2 days
including the front cover without any problems.
I used a lot of wet look products from Schwarzkopf and American Crew
on the boys as you can see the looks were hot and sweaty, so we needed
to create that type of look. Often I had to just keep using the water
spray to keep it really wet. The photographer knew the effect she
wanted and it really paid off in the finishing looks.
To finish off, I always really enjoy working on the Hollyoaks Calendars
as the cast and crew are brilliant to work with. We have fun but still
create fantastic Calendars and I am very proud to have been a part
of it for 3 years."
