Ionic Hairdryers
No more bad hair days?
|
Hard
to believe isn’t it – that one type of hairdryer could
be 50% more efficient and beneficial for hair than any
of the others out there. Especially when all the spin
and big claims come from the companies and manufacturers
actively involved in promoting them.
The theory behind Ionisation technology sounds impressive,
but try asking a scientist what they think about the
whole process and they become vague and non committal.
If only Einstein was still available for comment, he
used to work in the patent office, |
looking over new gizmos. The
‘eccentric professor’ conjures up images of wild
fly-away hair, that could have welcomed the invention of ‘ionic
dryers and straighteners’ with open arms.
Techno Stuff
The consensus of opinion,
describes Ionisation technology as using negatively
charged ions (generated by a hairdryer) to reduce the
size of water molecules in the hair, by attaching themselves
to positively charged wet hair. The result is less moisture
in the hair, reduced drying time and less heat damage.
This stream of ions has a smoothing effect on the surface
of the hair (cuticle). The greater the smoothing achieved,
the more pronounced the shine. The claims go on to describe
how ionic technology, enables micro particles of moisture
to penetrate into the hair and rebalance natural moisture
levels. |
|
As a result of this, the condition of hair improves; the nightmare
that was ‘frizz’ is banished; flyaway styles become a distant
memory and everyone thinks you’ve just stepped out of a salon.
With the added bonus of faster drying, you have more time
for that other little problem - deciding what to wear…
Memories
Does all this sound too good to be true? Reminiscent of products
that you lived to regret buying? Eg: The cool epilator that
removed hair painlessly! (ouch) The thermostatically controlled
ceramic straighteners that you daren’t leave plugged in, for
fear of your bedroom going up in smoke! The nail varnish dryer
you never remembered to get out until after you’d painted
your nails!
Decision Time
Leave well alone or splash out and buy an all singing, all
dancing, Ionic hairdryer? What do you do? Follow the ‘spin’
and try one of course – you know you want to! You don’t have
to be Einstein to test drying time against your old hairdryer.
Use your normal shampoo, conditioner and gel etc and then
try an Ionic dryer – see the results for yourself.
We trialled a BaByliss Ionic hairdryer 1600w against another
non Ionic model of the same brand at 2000w. Even with less
power the results were impressive, the drying time was cut
dramatically and gave a smooth shiny finish.
