News and photos from the big hair event

London was the talk of the hairdressing world recently, when 48,000 of visitors from all over the world travelled to ExCel to experience the best in British hairdressing. All attendees left feeling motivated, educated and inspired by this spectacular exhibition - Salon International is truly unique in atmosphere and content.

The Hair Show featured stands and stages that entertained the masses and offered education, trend information and tips and techniques which visitors could take back to the salon. Product and equipment launches, together with the latest tools and salon furniture all attracted huge amounts of attention.

Visitors flocked to HJ's British Hairdressing Awards Gallery where finalists and nominees pictures could be viewed and perused for the first time this year, and visitors could watch their hairdressing icons appear throughout the Hair Show on the huge number of free stages including Hairdressers Journal International, The Fellowship for British Hairdressing, Wahl, Schwarzkopf Professional, Wella Professionals and BaByliss to name but a few.

The Salon Live theatre played host to the best educators in the world with Toni & Guy, current British Hairdresser of the Year Andrew Barton and the Saks Art Team, Vidal Sassoon, Patrick Cameron, Rush, Mahogany's Richard Thompson and Tim Hartley all offering a breathtaking insight into their personal inspirations. Tigi's Inspirational Youth allowed 13 individuals to showcase their talents on the biggest platform that British hairdressing has to offer.

Mahogany and Lee Stafford Salons also educated visitors in the Salon Seminars giving in depth training on the cuts and colours for the forthcoming season, whilst Salon Business Extra shared business information with salon owners and managers with presentations by Peter Lunn, Sean Hanna, Alan Austin-Smith and Phil Smith.

Salon International also played host to Wella Professionals Trend Vision Award 07 on Saturday night - a national event that recognised the talent of young hairdressers from around the country. Sunday night was Goldwell's Rockmantic Show and Party featuring Beverly C, Rush, Mark Leeson and Sean Dawson and a host of fabulous DJ's and entertainment. The Alternative Hair Show celebrated their 25th birthday, and offered visitors a chance to see avant garde hairdressing as interpreted by creative teams from around the world - while also raising money for Leukaemia Research.

"Salon International 2007 has been a tremendous success and plans are already in place to ensure that we build on this growth in 2008. For the visitor, there was something for everyone - no matter at what age or stage in their career. Salon International delivered on its promise of inspiring business," commented exhibition director, Michael Patey.

Andrew Barton the reigning hairdresser of the year, proved once again what a true professional he is, soldiering on perched on crutches with a plaster cast around his right leg!

The injury happened when he fainted and collapsed while he was out running. "I picked myself up and limped home; had a bath, a glass of wine and some dinner and went to bed thinking I'd be fine in the morning. I was mistaken! When I woke up I couldn't put my foot down on the floor. A friend took me up to A&E;, where they did all sorts of tests because I had fainted. They said I was over-worked and over-stressed but in otherwise perfect health - apart for my ankle, which I have broken.

I now have a cast from my toe to my knee and am on crutches for the next five weeks, but it won't stop me going about my business, including fulfilling trips to New York, Rome."

Somehow, Andrew still managed to cut and style the models hair, with his leg resting on a chair. Well done Andrew for another award winning performance!

Patrick Cameron was also in fine form, demonstrating his styling talents on the models below, photograpy by Jamie Carroll.

Alternative winding techniques may be used starting in the middle of the section or at the ends.

The curling iron is available in three sizes:

*M. CURL
To create a spiral type curl for medium length to long hair
* S. CURL
To create a corkscrew type curl for short and medium length hair

The best results with the PBM curling irons can be achieved by winding the hair around the barrel of the iron starting close to the scalp and then using the twist control to wind in the ends.
