Mary Barra
Mary Teresa Makela (now Barra) is the Chief Executive of General Motors since January 15 2014. She was born December 24, 1961.
In April 2014 Mary was featured on the cover of Time’s ‘100 Most Influential People in the world’. Also, Mary was also judged to be the 41st most powerful woman in the world by Forbes in 2012 and then again to be the 35th in 2013.
Mary studied electrical engineering at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University). There she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree and she also received a GM fellowship at Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1998. In 1990 she obtained a Master in Business Administration.
Mary is the first female CEO of a major global automaker. Mary served as the vice president of Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain at General Motors. In December General Motors named her to succeed Dan Akerson as Chief Executive Officer.
Maggie became the vice president of Global Manufacturing Engineering in February 2008. In July 2009 she furthered her career to the position of Vice President of Global Human Resources which she held until February 2011; this was when she was named Executive Vice President of Global Product Development; Maggie’s Vice President responsibilities were extended to include Global Purchasing and Supply Chain in August 2013.
