The Oscars 2010

The distinguished silver look is no longer one that makes the celebrities head straight to their favourite colourist. Neither is it an inevitable trend for the over 40's - many younger stars have recently been playing with the look. Helen Mirren's colour palette is pale blonde to silvery grey and George Clooney is every inch the film star with his smooth greying locks.

Kelly Osbourne went one step further and joined the blue rinse club with her lavender curls. This follows style icons Kate Moss's recent grey on blonde look and Pixie Geldof's grey crop.

Aaron Blondell, Schwarzkopf Professional Ambassador, Art Director at John Carne Hairdressing
Advises what to ask for if you want to take the plunge with this daring but on-trend shade so you don't end up looking just like your Nan.
"This particular look has been talked about heavily recently! To get it right, you ideally need fair or pale olive skin and naturally light hair to start with as it just won't suit darker complexions. The process will most likely involve bleaching to lift the colour to a pale yellow and then toning with a dramatic ash grey, not a concrete grey. This concrete flat colour only happens if the toner has been left on for too long and if the hair colour hasn't been taken care of. Use a Professional SilverShampoo to keep the colour looking fresh rather than a flat dull grey. It's also important to remember that bleaching involves stripping all the natural pigments out of hair, and this includes moisture too so you'll need to replace it with regular treatments to condition and hydrate locks."
