Bride: Sarah Jessica Parker (Actress, Producer)
Groom: Matthew Broderick (Actor, Director)
Venue: Angel Orensanz Center, New York. Built in 1849, this synagogue was
modelled after the Cathedral of Cologne, with a gothic style and gold-leaf altar
(it was once the studio of a Spanish sculptor Angel Orensanz, prior to hosting

by the groom’s sister the Reverend Janet Broderick Kraft an Episcopal minister.
Dress by: Morgane Le Fay - Ruffled black dress with a full skirt, moss-green
crinoline underneath. The choice of black was an attempt to avoid media attention
and Jessica later regretted the decision. She told Harpers Bazaar “I would white
it up. I’d wear a beautiful, proper wedding dress, like I should have worn on
that day.”
Groom’s attire: Black off-the-peg suit
Reception: The reception followed the ceremony and the Peter Duchin’s orchestra
provided show tunes. The couple has a sing-along with their guests, many having
starred on Broadway.
Sarah said, “I wanted to do the wedding without electricity, with just candelabra, so the lighting would be perfect and you would see the parts of the building that were still gorgeous, but you wouldn’t notice the parts that were less so ... I knew exactly what I wanted.”
To keep guests relaxed, she chose a buffet instead of a sit-down meal.
"I didn’t want people to feel uptight, and I didn’t want to tell them where to sit and who to sit with."
The feast included Parmesan with balsamic syrup, fresh oysters, fresh figs with prosciutto for appetisers. Followed by trays of ethnic delights, Tandoori chicken with mango-nut chutney, tiny lamb chops, grilled shrimp with dried apricot salsa and yellow ginger rice,
Guests received a wedding favour, a slice of wedding cake and a note from Jessica that said: “Put this under your pillow, and dream of your true love.”
Honeymoon: Matthew went back to work the next day in 1998’s Godzilla and
Parker on Broadway’s Once Upon a Mattress. The couple later honeymooned in Ireland.
Number of guests: 140
Special guests: Ron Rifkin, Bruno Kirby
Engagement: Matthew proposed to her with a 5.5 carat solitaire emerald-cut
diamond on a platinum band.
Where did they meet? Sarah was introduced to Matthew by her brother Timothy
in 1991, when they were at the movies. Matthew was directing Sarah’s two brothers
in an Off-Broadway play. They started dating early in 1992.
"He’s probably the funniest fellow I’ve met in my entire life," she told the Los Angeles Times in 1996, four years after they started dating. "I’m mad for him, totally."
History: Sarah dated actor Robert Downey Jr for several years, before his
problems with drug addiction finally forced them apart. He later cleaned up his
act, but by then it was too late and Sarah had moved on.
Matthew was briefly engaged to actress Jennifer Grey in 1986
This is the first marriage for Sarah and Matthew. The couple’s son James was born in 2002, they also have twin girls, by a surrogate mother in 2009.
