| Oscar de la Renta was praised as an ’American icon’ at the CFDA Awards yesterday (03.06.13).
The fashion designer was honoured with the Eleanor Lambert Founder’s Award at the fashion awards ceremony in New York City last night and was hailed for his contributions to the industry by his long-time friend, former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Introducing the famed fashion mogul, she praised him for contributing to the "American melting pot", adding: "Simply put, he is an American icon. His style and personality have permeated our culture and shaped the industry for decades.
"His name alone evokes elegance and timeless beauty, and his designs give each of us a chance like we’re special too."
Iconic designer Vera Wang was also honoured at the event with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, while Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci took home the International Award, which was presented by actress Jessica Chas... [more] |
| Donatella Versace claims her style is high-maintenance.
The Italian fashion designer admits she likes to look glamorous at all costs and can’t remember the last time she wore flats, adding that the most important thing to her is taking care of her skin and her platinum blonde locks.
Speaking at the Vogue Festival at London’s Southbank centre yesterday (28.04.13), she said: "My style is not that big, I wear heels, tight pants and I wear diamonds. I stopped working with a personal trainer as he wouldn’t let me smoke.
"I’m not like this genetically, I use tonnes of cream and take care of my hair and skin."
The 57-year-old icon kicked off her talk - which was hosted by Vogue contributing editor Lisa Armstrong - by discussing her brother Gianni, who passed away in 1997, and how he inspired her to take risks.

| Linda Evangelista thinks the life of a top model is hard work
The 47-year-old supermodel says she has to work as hard as an athlete at maintaining her well-groomed image and keeping fit in order to stay at the top of her game in the fashion industry.
Linda told i-D magazine: "When I started in the business, I was told I had three good years in me. On days where I do not work, I am working on my image. I have to hit the gym.
"I have beauty appointments. I have to work towards my next job and maintaining my image, just like an athlete."
The Canadian star - who has appeared on over 600 magazine covers over the course of her career - is determined to maintain her crown as one of the original supermodels, and thinks exuding confidence and grace in every situation is key to longevity as a model.

The 38-year-old supermodel - who is regularly referred to as one of the most
beautiful women in the world - revealed she often leaves her garments
"strewn all over the floor" on days when she doesn’t know what to wear.
When asked if she ever has bad clothes days, she replied: "God, yes! Just
like anyone else I have bad days and leave clothes strewn all over the
floor. Just ask my friends."
But even when the stunning star is unsure about what to put on, Kate knows
she can always rely on styling herself in jeans, jackets and trouser suits
because she believes that look suits her the most.
