| Oscar de la Renta was praised as an ’American icon’ at the CFDA Awards yesterday (03.06.13).
The fashion designer was honoured with the Eleanor Lambert Founder’s Award at the fashion awards ceremony in New York City last night and was hailed for his contributions to the industry by his long-time friend, former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Introducing the famed fashion mogul, she praised him for contributing to the "American melting pot", adding: "Simply put, he is an American icon. His style and personality have permeated our culture and shaped the industry for decades.
"His name alone evokes elegance and timeless beauty, and his designs give each of us a chance like we’re special too."
Iconic designer Vera Wang was also honoured at the event with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, while Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci took home the International Award, which was presented by actress Jessica Chas... [more] |
 | Amy Adams’ Oscars dress was inspired by an old black-and-white photograph
The ’Muppets’ actress discussed her ideas with Oscar de la Renta for her beaded and tulle-embellished gown and the designer was particularly taken by an old picture on a model walking into a doorway.
Her stylist Cristina Ehrlich said: "[Adams found photos] that were shown to Mr. de la Renta.
"It was sort of a real ’aha’ moment for him when he saw this one specific photograph."
The fashion house worked hard to get the dress exactly right and were still making changes just hours before Amy walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre.
Christina added to PEOPLE: "If you zoom in [on the skirt’s tiers] there are these little tiny eyelashes. Every little layer, every single eyelash was pulled by hand.

| Karlie Kloss shuns parties during Fashion Week.
The supermodel thinks it’s imperative to take care of her skin and stay hydrated during the whirlwind marathon of fashion shows in New York, London and Paris and claims she ditches champagne for water to look her best on the runway.
She told PEOPLE magazine: "I am definitely a sleep over champagne kind of girl. I’m a hardworking girl, so I have to take care of myself. You have to rest while you can, drink water and power through."
Quizzed about her must-have item to get her through Fashion Week, Karlie said: "These stick-on eye patch things that stick to your skin, called Skyn. I almost walk out of the house wearing them."
The Victoria’s Secret Angel - who walked the catwalk for Burberry at London Fashion Week yesterday (18.02.13) - admitted the worst thing about the fast-paced event is not being able to keep one nail varnish colour for long.

| Oscar de la Renta wants to continue working with John Galliano after New York Fashion Week ends.
The former Dior creative director - who was sacked from the French fashion house after he was found guilty of anti-Semitic behaviour - had originally intended to complete a temporary residency with Oscar’s label up until the autumn/winter 2013 show, which takes place tomorrow (12.02.13) and Oscar hopes he will stay on board with the brand.
He said: "I would love for him to stay. Will he? I cannot tell you that today because we haven’t gone that far in really discussing it.
"The fact is, we work very differently in New York than in Paris. It’s night and day. We work at a much faster pace. So the answer is we don’t know. We’re still exploring."
Although the 80-year-old designer admits he lacks common ground with John, Oscar appreciates the feedback from him and thinks he is extremely "talented".

| Oscar de la Renta is launching a line for The Outnet.
The fashion house will unveil a 24-piece collection made of old fabrics and patterns for the discount designer outlet website on February 26, with retail prices expected to range from $325 to $1,295.
Alex Bolen, Oscar de la Renta chief executive officer, told WWD: "We have things around here that are underutilised - [such as] 40 years of patterns, fabrics and artwork that a lot of people spent time on. We thought, perhaps we can put something together in a way that is new, that doesn’t require as much development time and in an exclusive way.
"[But] the thing we have to be careful about is that we don’t want to dumb down our product or offer the same thing at two different prices."

| Dolce & Gabbana are looking forward to John Galliano’s fashion comeback.
The Italian design duo have pledged their support to the disgraced former Christian Dior creative designer - who was fired two years ago for a drunken anti-Semitic rant in a Parisian bar - and wish him all the best during his temporary residency at Oscar de la Renta’s New York studio.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana told Swide magazine: "We wish John the best of luck with his return to fashion. We’ve always been admirers of his flamboyant talent.
"He has been missed from the fashion scene these two years and we can’t wait to see the collection with Oscar de la Renta."

| Oscar de la Renta has invited John Galliano to spend time with him in his New York design studio.
The acclaimed designer wants to help his disgraced friend - who departed Christian Dior - two years ago following drunken outbursts and an anti-Semitic rant - begin getting his career back on track by "reimmersing" himself in the fashion world.
Oscar said: "John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent.
"He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to reimmerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate in an environment where he has been so creative."
Oscar believes John, who blamed stress and addictions for his controversial behaviour, deserves a second chance and is going about changing his life in the right way.

| Oscar de la Renta wants women to look beautiful while wearing his clothes.
The 80-year-old designer says he is absolutely fascinated with every female and when he creates clothes, his main aim is for them to look good in them.
He said: "Fashion is at its best now, because women have more control over their lives than ever. I just want to see them looking beautiful... in my clothes.
"Without women, I would be deeply bored and extremely poor."
Despite the financial uncertainty in the world, Oscar is still enjoying big success and he thinks that’s down to the fact he is producing his best work ever.
When asked by Britain’s Hello! magazine if the current recession improves talent, Oscar said: "Yes, and it makes it enduring. It takes a creative spirit to bring a fashion house alive. Without that, it’s an empty shell.
"Luxury is a quality of life that has nothing to do with money."

| Anna Wintour looks set to be the next US ambassador to Britain.
The US Vogue editor is being tipped to take on the role to replace outgoing ambassador Louis Susman after raising $500,000 for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and donating tens of thousands of dollars to the cause.
Anna, 63, is expected to top a shortlist being drawn up for Obama after hosting a number of fundraising dinners for the US President - including a $40,000-per-plate event for 50 people at the home of ’Sex in the City’ star Sarah Jessica Parker - and a decision is expected to be made within weeks.
A Democrat source in Washington is quoted by the Inquisitr as saying: "A large number of Obama’s ambassadors have been fundraisers. Both these two fit the bill.

| Oscar de la Renta is auctioning off an internship
The fashion house is being joined by Balenciaga, M Missoni and Valentino by partaking in a scheme with charitybuzz.com, with unpaid positions offered in sales, press, merchandising or PR.
Those wanting to take part must be over 18 and enrolled in an accredited college or university course.
All proceeds from the auction go towards Rosie’s Theatre Kids, a New York-based charity which enriches youngsters lives through arts education.
Balenciaga currently has a highest bid of $1,350, while Oscar de la Renta has so far made $1,000.
Valentino and M Missoni has yet to receive any bids, with seven days of the auction left.
Oscar was recently involved in the takeover of a new store in London, where hairdresser Nicky Clarke has been for more than 20 years.

The ’Glee’ actress thinks a "cute" short gown makes for the perfect party dress, and she advises keeping make-up and accessories to a minimum to set
the outfit off in the best way.
She said: "The perfect party dress is a cute mini. But it has to stand on its own, you shouldn’t need a lot of accessories, hair or make-up.
"Something that you can just throw on and it’s fabulous in its own sense."
Lea also thinks it is important to choose an outfit that is comfortable.

The singer-turned-designer - who won rave reviews for her high end line
during the show on Sunday (09.09.12) - was one of the star attractions at the prestigious event as critics waited to see what she had produced for her Victoria by Victoria Beckham range.
The clothes were ones that the mother-of-four would be happy
to wear herself as that’s what she bases her designs on.
Speaking after her Sunday show, Victoria said of her high-end line:
"Developing this collection has been an incredibly exciting time for me. I’ve challenged myself to create what I personally want to wear."

Week yesterday (09.09.12).
The supermodel was joined by other special guests including Crystal Renn,

The ’Hot Right Now’ singer is a huge fan of the No Doubt star and has always admired her trademark look of bleached blonde hair and red lips.
She said: "Gwen Stefani always gets it right. And I love blondes. My own hair is naturally very black and curly, but I’ve totally trashed it. The first thing I did when I left school was buy a bottle of hair bleach."
