TIME TO TALK
We interviewed Pierre Alexandre from Pierre Alexandre
What was your inspiration for the salon?
I always like timeless elegance and comfort is a must. We recently updated some salon furniture and have painted some walls in warm Mulberry burst which goes well with the soft light mud colour we used on the main walls and the fitted furniture.
Who is your role model?
Gosh, that’s a hard question to answer without writing a book, but with out a doubt Joshua Galvin for his determination to change the way we teach today. Joshua who really was my first Mentor, walked into my salon one day late 1973 and asked me to join Intercoiffure, I soon became a member of their artistic team when Joshua invited me to join him in Paris, for the Intercoiffure Mondial, it was in Paris, I was first discovered Internationally, when I secretly designed two totally new Hair styles cuts and colours, one was called ‘Halo’ and the other ‘Intercut’. The ‘Intercut’ was years later made famous by Jason Donavan. Norman Bloomfield (Hairdressers Journal editor) my second Mentor, took up my new Style and used my ‘Halo’ style to promote Hairdressing week for October 1974, Hairdressing week developed into ‘Salon’ the first one was held as a show and exhibition format in London’s Lancaster Hotel where Norman gave me the main spot to present my first ever Show telling a story, the rest is history. ‘Salon’ became so popular that it moved to Earl Court and became ‘Salon International’ ‘then moved to Wembley conference centre and is now at Excel London. Norman introduced me to Japan and South East Asia where I worked for years after.
Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
There were many best moments the first one was in Paris when I was discovered. And the two shows I did, in Ravenna Italy and a other in Knoxville US with Audiences over 12’000 Hairdressers in each, that was an amazing experience, mind blowing actually! The Royal Albert Hall London with a fantastic International audience of over 4000 with standing ovations, it was mind blowing and a wonderful experience.
Funniest hairdressing moment?
Cleaning the Streets of Manchester ready for the Commonwealth Games Bid for Manchester, with Eartha Kitt, Eartha posed with a bandana covering her hair, as we just applied a hair treatment, before the Pictures were taken, we were featured on Granada TV and on the front cover of the Manchester Evening news.
Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
Never believe what other People say, “believe in yourself”.
Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
Dynamic, creative talents, caring personality towards clients and the team.
What would you like to be known for?
