TIME TO TALK
We interviewed Simon Cox from Clipso
What was your inspiration for the salon?
The inspiration for the salon was to provide a contemporary look with an open plan design. We wanted to provide a modern look, which people would feel relaxed in but also allowing customers to see all team members at work.
Who is your role model?
Prior to joining Clipso I looked at all sorts of top names in our industry to gain inspiration, when joining Clipso this was fulfilled with the late great Terry Calvert, founder of the Clipso group. It was working with Terry at shows and other events that he became an inspiration for me, his passion and skill was second to none.
Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
Winning the “Best Use of Technology” award at The Sapphires in 2010 as this was an individual salon award. Also, after being a State Registered Hairdresser for a number of years I applied for the whole of my team to also be registered, I then found out that I could upgrade my registration to a ‘Master Craftsman Diploma of Hairdressing’, I now have 10 team members registered at this time, of which I am really proud of all of them!
Funniest hairdressing moment?
At one of Clipso`s team building days in the summer, myself and all the other managers including Terry Calvert had nominated for a ‘special award’ of the day, we thought we had excelled at one of the events and it was big smiles all round for us! However we then found out that the special prize was to take turns at being dunked in an old style witch`s dunking chair in freezing cold water! I will never forget the huge grins that were on all of the groups faces, as one by one we was submerged in water!
Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
“Work hard and prosper, the harder you work the luckier you get”
Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
There are many qualities of which I look for in someone, first and foremost to have the required skill and be excited about hair and hairdressing as a whole. Good communication with clients and other team members is also very important, also a good sense of humour as in our industry this is a must! We are with each other and our clients more than we are with our nearest and dearest!
What would you like to be known for?
Always being positive, happy and good fun to be around!
What couldn't you live without?
My team, my family and my daughter. Everything else is just stuff; we work hard to do all the other things that we want to do in our lives.
