TIME TO TALK
We interviewed Anthony John from Anthony John
What was your inspiration for the salon?
5* hotels, luxury homes and Michelin star restaurants. I didn’t want it to feel like a salon. I wanted a luxury, spacious yet homely place for my staff to be creative and clients to enjoy.
Who is your role model?
Industry wise it has to be Errol Douglas, superb hairdresser, astute business man and a top bloke. Also I have read all of Anthony Whittaker’s books, he shares my ethos in the way I like my business and team to run and puts it in a way that’s easy to understand and put into practice. In my personal life I have many people who inspire me, musicians, artists but most of all my family and friends.
Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
The day I opened the doors to my own salon. Also every time a member of my team wins or is shortlisted for an award fills me with pride. There’s no better feeling than seeing someone you have nurtured and educated achieve their goals and dreams.
Funniest hairdressing moment?
Slipping over in front of a salon full of clients on my first day as a junior. Not cool.
Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
It was a quote I read, "you can’t fly with the eagles if you walk with the sparrows." In other words cut negative people out of your life, surround yourself with good people.
Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
A smile, a willingness and openness to learn and improve no matter how much experience they have.
What would you like to be known for?
Being a good guy and an inspiration to my team.
What couldn't you live without?
My wife.
