TIME TO TALK
We interviewed Karen Thomson from KAM Hair & Body Spa
What was your inspiration for the salon?
My inspiration was to give the salon a luxurious feel, like a boutique hotel - somewhere people could come and relax and switch off and feel like they were being spoilt and pampered.
Who is your role model?
Vidal Sassoon was amazing, for what he did for British hairdressing and also for his work ethic.
Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
Lots of them but being a Finalist for Scottish Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards would definitely be one of them.
Funniest hairdressing moment?
Cutting an older man’s side burn off through miscommunication when I’d just finished my training. I never repeated this mistake again!
Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
My dad has always told me to work hard and go for it and not to be scared to take a chance!
Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
Definitely the right attitude, and to be a genuinely nice person. You can always give extra training, but it’s very hard (probably impossible) to change someone’s attitude.
What would you like to be known for?
Being fair to my team and helping them to further their skills and help them with their aims.
What couldn't you live without?
My family and my horses – it’s a great escape after a hectic day in the salon!
