TIME TO TALK
We interviewed Tracey Hughes from Mieka Hairdressing
What was your inspiration for the salon?
Inspiration for the salon design is based upon the local demographics, culture and buildings of each location. We wanted to create a space that had character, yet was still simple and modern. The branding in each salon creates a consistency within the look and feel of the salon. Our objective was to create a culture within the Mieka Hairdressing brand based on producing the highest quality of work, with a motivated team and a dedication to ongoing education.
Who is your role model?
Vidal Sassoon was my hairdressing idol, as he was to many thousands of others. As a creative being and an educator, I have high regard for those who possess true visionary as well as those who give back to the industry through teaching.
Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
There have been so many proud moments it is hard to determine which is the biggest highlight of them all. We have been fortunate to win many awards including ‘Australian Salon of the Year’ numerous times, along with ‘Hairdresser of the Year,’ ‘Colorist of the Year,’ ‘Educator of the Year,’ ‘Excellence in Education’ and Honoree Masters. Some of our proudest moments have been witnessing happy clients within the salon, and also when we get to share our wealth of experience to the industry throughout our global education events.
Funniest hairdressing moment?
There have been a few funny anecdotes over the years that it really is too hard to narrow it down to just one!
Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
Working across the globe, with so many diverse cultures and talented artists creates invaluable experiences with lots of invaluable advice. Everyday is a new learning journey, so we have certainly been humbled by all the advice and guidance we have received. However, the best piece of advice I was given and now share with many others, is to make the most of every opportunity that presents itself.
Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
We look for a healthy, positive attitude, with a solid work ethic. We embrace individuality, and confident individuals who are very grounded with no egos. They must be open-minded to keep growing to be the best that they can be. From a skills perspective, their level and skillset and experience doesn’t matter, since our education program builds their development to produce the highest quality of skills, through-out all our team members.
What would you like to be known for?
Producing beautiful work of high quality, combined with excellent customer service. We pride ourselves on our technical craftsmanship, skills set and knowledge of our work. We are very dedicated to giving back to the industry, through supplying relevant global educational events.
