Did you Know ……….
  • If one cup of coffee keeps you on a high all day, your genes may make you particularly sensitive to caffeine.Swedish researchers have discovered a protein in the brain that appears to prevent the effects of the coffee wearing off.Differing levels of the protein could explain how a cup can keep some people bussing for hours whilst others need regular ‘fixes’.
  • Smokers be warned – research published in the International Journal of Dermatology shows that smokers are three times more likely to get severe pre-mature wrinkles than non-smokers and that these wrinkles were visible in smokers as young as 20 – yet another incentive to ditch the habit.
  • The British Dietetic Association are calling for ‘standard’ portion sizes to be brought back. They say that ‘king-size’ ‘big-eat’ and ‘super-size’ portions are partly to blame for the increasing obesity problem in this country.Studies showed that when faced with a larger portion we automatically ate more, unfortunately we get used to this sized portion and so need to eat even more to feel satisfied.

  1. I wear a hat quite often but someone told me this isn’t good for my hair.Is this true?
  1. The main problem that this can cause is a build up of static.Very tight-fitting hats may cause breakage especially if your hair is processed.
  1. I have been dyeing my hair black for quite some time but would now like to go back to my light brown natural shade. Can I do this myself?
  1. If you’ve been putting a very dark colorant on your hair for a while it would definitely be best to go to a stylist.Your hair may need to be ‘stripped’ of colour before it can be corrected – especially if your hair is mid-length or longer. If you could bear it, it would be beneficial to have a short style for a good while, so that you style will eventually be your natural colour without having to continue corrective dyeing.Don’t forget to keep hair in tip-top condition whilst you are doing this.

Stress and Hair Loss
Stress related hair loss in women is an increasingly common problem.A growing number of women in stress-related jobs suffer from thinning hair.Modern life and high stress levels associated with a fast-moving lifestyle can have a truly dramatic effect upon hair.Considerable stress can also be placed on a mother, especially if working, by the oftenformidable demands of family life.

Many parts of the body can suffer the effects of stress, but it shows very quickly in the hair because the life cycle of the hair is interrupted, causing it to fall out prematurely. In most cases, this type of hair loss is temporary and the hair which is lost will be replaced. The problem is, however, by the time one particular hair is replaced another two have fallen out, so the overall effect can be a significant thinning of the hair.

Problem Solving

The first rule, if you see excessive hair fall is don’t panic. This will cause more stress and even more hair to fall! Most people who can eliminate or reduce the levels of stress will recover the hair very well.

The Tony Maleedy Trichology Hair Loss and Scalp Treatment can be used to reduce excessive hair loss and encourage good hair growth.

This treatment is a blend of plant extracts and is commonly used in professional trichology clinics to stabilise hair fall.It is sprayed onto the scalp once a day, where it has a pleasant cooling sensation. It should be used for three to six months until the quantity of hair coming out is back to normal. It would be wise to use the Trichology Scalp Improvement Shampoo too as this will ensure that the scalp is healthy and the hair will grow back as quickly as possible.

Hair Drying Tips

Don’t stop moving the dryer. If you do, your hair will overheat and become damaged.

Don’t use brushes made entirely of plastic because, unless your hair is very short, you hair will probably end up in knots.

Don’t turn off the dryer until you’re sure the roots are completely dry.If you hair has cold patches then it is not dry, which means your style will flop and kings will appear.

Best Drink of the Day?
We all love our early morning cuppa but here are a few ways to make the most of it –
  • To reduce puffiness placecool, used tea bags over your eyes and relax for 10 minutes.
  • Keep your feet smelling sweet by immersing them in a bowl of warm, black tea.The tannic acid is a natural astringent and helps kill odour – causing bacteria.
  • Take the stingout of an insect bite or cut by placing a cool, brewed green-tea bag over the affected area.
