QUICK
FIXES Problem - Damp weather
has frizzed your curls. Quick Fix
- In an emergency rub some moisturiser or handcream between palms and run through
hair. This will do no harm occasionally, but if you know you're prone to the frizzes
keep a trial size bottle of hair serum in your handbag when autumn comes.
How to Avoid - Frizziness is a result
of dryness so never skimp on conditioning products. Glen Lyons, consultant trichologist
suggests using Philip Kingsley Elasticizer - a pre-wash conditioner that's packed
with moisturisers. | |
Problem - You've slept in, no time to
shampoo but hair is greasy. Quick Fix
- Keep a bottle of dry shampoo such as Batiste for emergency's, failing that good
old talcum powder rubbed in and brushed out still works. If you can, have a well
practised 'up-do' style that you can do easily then just wet your fringe and blast
with hairdryer. How to Avoid - If
you don't have much time or energy in the mornings switch your hair wash to the
evening, just quickly restyling in the morning.
Problem
- Late night, smokey pub, red puffy eyes Quick
Fix - If you don't have time to lie with cucumber slices over your
eyes try Optrex Fresh Eyes Eye Drops (discard a month after opening) and apply
a thin layer of Boots Botanics Eye Gel under eyes - use gel rather than cream
as its cooling and soothing. Run a line of white eye pencil inside the lower rim
of eyelid to open up eyes and avoid eye shadow with pinky-tones. How
to Avoid - Well you know the best answer to that, but if you must party,
be sure to remove all traces of eye make up before going to sleep however tired
you are. Using eye drops before going to sleep will help to remove smokey pollutants
and drinking a large tumbler of water before bed can help with puffyness.

Q:
Which is better for dry skin lotion or oil? My body lotion doesn't seem to work
but I don't want greasy skin. | A:
If your skin is still dry and flaky after using a lotion then an oil would probably
work better for you. Oil needn't be greasy if applied properly. | Most
body lotions are made with water, which tends to evaporate after application.
An oil will form a film on your skin and seal in moisture to prevent it drying
out. Its best to apply a light oil to wet skin before you towel off, the oil will
be absorbed better and moisture will be locked in. Plenty of oils now come in
a spray-mist form for ease of use. Also the application process will mean your
hands get a good moisturise too! |

& tips from your side of the counter........
According to a survey by a leading magazine,
bra size has increased from an average 34B to 36C during the past 20 years, but
breast enlargement surgery is still a popular cosmetic procedure. Consultant plastic
surgeon Nick Percival however, thinks that one-day it will be routine for women
to grow their own breast implants. 'A tissue culture will be grown from your own
cells, then a cosmetic surgeon will put it back into your body'. These will be
permanent, unlike silicone implants, and they won't leak.
| Professor
Wayne Morrison leads the tissue engineering team from the Bernard O'Brien Institute
of Microsurgery in Australia, which has taken this a step further. |
It's developing a technique where the tissue grows in the body itself. A structure,
which eventually disintegrates, is implanted into the breast and generates new
blood vessels to supply the growing tissue. The result? Natural, larger breasts
that last a lifetime. Unfortunately, no one seems able to come up with
a solution to the modern day mania for wanting larger breasts! After years of
fighting for the vote, equal rights etc we still feel judged by how big our mammaries
are. How sad is that! |
DID
YOU KNOW? - That according to a 10 year study by scientists at Stanford
University, California, fitness is the key to a longer life. They found that people
who exercised regularly lived longer than non-exercisers, even if they smoked
and were overweight. |
AROMATIC
MOOD ENHANCERS | Essential
oils make a great perfume when blended together and can be totally unique to you
in you blend your own. | Oils
should not be used neat on the skin so to make your own perfume add a few drops
of your chosen oils to a carrier oil such as wheatgerm. Stored in a dark, cool
place it should last up to three months. Aromatherapist for Absolute Aromas Tracy
Gill suggests you don't use a blend of more than 3 oils. "Choose one woody oil,
such as sandalwood, one mid-note, usually floral and one top-note, possibly a
citrus. To get you started:-
To feel confident and attractive blend sandalwood, ylang ylang and
orange. To feel lively and uplifted, try combining sandalwood,
bergamot and lemon. If you feel out of sorts and need balancing,
try cederwood, geranium and lavender. |
