Following
a recent feature, we at UKHairdressers were overwhelmed by the
amount of E-mails received concerning the problem of headlice and treatments available.
It would appear that there is a particular problem at the moment in most UK schools
with mothers at their wits end in trying to treat and control repeated outbreaks.
Whilst much of the stigma attached to this particular problem has diminished,
it obviously still causes embarrassment and upset to children and parents when
it occurs, and although it causes no lasting damage to the hair, the condition
can be extremely uncomfortable for the sufferer. Many of the e-mails
we received complained that several treatments tried have been unsuccessful and
costly. There was also concern that treatment could only be used occasionally
and therefore re-infestation was likely to occur. We understand your
concerns and have researched to the best of our ability in order to find a solution.
After testing several brands on offer on volunteers affected, we think
we have come up with the most successful product - Natural
Look Pyrethrum Care Regimen. This consists of Shampoo, Leave-In
Conditioner and Treatment Oil, all of which can be used on a regular basis, unlike
most other products. The active compound is Pyrethrin sourced from the
flower 'chrysanthemum cinerarial folium'. When used regularly the system prevents
and controls headlice and their eggs. Stage
One - Pyrethrum Oil The oil is sprayed through the infested
hair and scalp and starts to work immediately. It should be left on the hair for
30 mins or more and during this period the hair should be combed using the fine
toothcomb supplied. The oil is 100% natural pyrethrum, lavender, citronella and
tea tree. Stage Two - Pyrethrum Shampoo
After applying the oil the shampoo should be worked through the hair and scalp
ensuring maximum saturation of each hair. The shampoo has very little smell, unlike
other brands and can be used daily during virulent outbreaks. Leave shampoo on
the hair for 10 mins before rinsing. Repeat if infestation has been particularly
bad. Stage Three - Leave In - Conditioner
After shampooing and rising, spray the conditioner through the hair and once
again comb through thoroughly with the fine toothcomb, wiping from time to time
on a tissue. This conditioner can be sprayed on a daily basis to prevent further
infestation. We found that this system worked more effectively and was
more pleasant to use than any other tried. The spray-on method was much easier
to use than other lotions, some of which had particularly strong odours, and the
advantage of frequent usage meant further infestations were significantly reduced.
The oil spray (Stage One) we found particularly effective with visible migration
of the head lice. Although by the very nature of essential oils the hair obviously
was very oily after spraying, it was effectively removed by the shampoo. The conditioner
does leave the hair with a slight residue but we think this is a small price to
pay for the protection if offers. All-in-all this was way and above the
easiest, most pleasant to use and cost effective remedy we tried. We hope this
will resolve the problem for you and would welcome your comments on your success.

TOP TIP Don't
use an oil-free foundation under or around the eye area. It will
sit in creases and accentuate any fine lines, as the consistency is quite dry.
Instead, use a specially designated under-eye concealer, which will have light
reflecting particles, patting it gently under the eye and on the brow bone for
instant brightness. |

MOP
Comfort and Joy Hair & Body Pack
will be travelling to Scotland as a gift for Jenny - the lovely lady who owns
the hotel where my family visits every spring. She always takes good care of us
and this will be my annual thank you.
Biocol
Marine Travel Bag - as I gave the Biocol Marine moisturiser to my friend
Sarah for her 40th birthday recently, I thought I would give her this lovely travel
bag to go with it. She never seems to be in this country for too long before jetting
off to some glamorous foreign location so I reckon a new travel bag might be just
the ticket!
Perfect eyes by Revlon
- my sister won't mind me saying that although her eyes are a beautiful colour,
they are quite small and her lashes are very straight. I know she struggles every
day in an effort to make them appear bigger, so I thought this set by Revlon might
help. I love this mascara and I think the curlers will really help to open her
eyes up. (And if you're reading Sis, yes, this is just one of your many presents
and yes, I have spent a fortune on you just like always!!) |

According to award winning stylist Andrew
Jose, the majority of us are still colouring our hair at home
rather than visiting a salon due to cost and convenience. This is okay but do
watch out for the pitfalls. Follow a few of Andrews's rules for best results.
• Always choose at least one
shade lighter than the manufacturers advise as the colour is always more intense
than indicated.
• Follow all of the
instructions always.
• Rub vaseline
or a barrier cream around hairline before starting to avoid staining.
• Always watch the timing carefully, don't
be tempted to leave the mixture on for longer than stated.
•
Don't skip the strand test if you haven't used the product before -
you could end up with more than an irritated scalp! |
