Are You Faking It?
Hair extensions are the answer to the beautiful long locks of today but do you really know what you're doing with them?
Extensions first appeared back in the 80's and they were written off as 'just a fad'. Who would have thought 20 years later they would come roaring back onto the scene, hitting the headlines and the heads of Celebs world over.
Extensions can be fun, fashionable and practical, making them ready available to you and I, without restricting any lifestyle activity; you can still swim and play sport with total confidence.
Extensions can be used for a variety of reasons, whether its to give extra texture to fine hair like Emma Bunton's or to add superstar length to your short locks, extensions allow you to indulge in your ultimate fantasies, even if it is only for a short period of time.
If you are considering having hair extensions it is important to decide if you're going to keep it real or fake it. So here we have it, Synthetic versus Human Hair...
Versatility: Synthetic hair has the main advantage here as it does what you want, unlike your own hair, which will do exactly what it wants! Quality: Good quality synthetic hair like monofibre, will outshine real hair, it will look healthier and be generally more manageable. Alternatively Human hair can be easier to look after and there's no need to treat it any different than your own hair, since it will look, feel and move like your own hair.Style: Heated appliances, tongs, straightening irons can be used on human hair as normal, with synthetic hair you'll have to be slightly more careful. You can still use some styling tools on your hair and you will generally find the ones that are available to use will keep the style longer.Safety: Synthetic extensions are attached and taken out without the use of any glues or chemicals, whereas human hair must be removed professionally using a special substance. Both synthetic and human hair extensions are positioned away from the scalp to avoid any possible tension or discomfort that could be potentially caused.Wellbeing: Both types of extensions are perfectly safe and should be attached/detached by a professional technician. The key to great extensions is that no one should know that you've got them in, the proof is in the pudding so go ahead and be daring.Cost: Human hair is generally more expensive than synthetic hair, but this doesn't mean that the hair is any better quality; it is due to the fact human hair will have been chemically treated before it can be used. The main important factors are to choose a salon and extension, type that you are happy with. Don't put cheaper option before quality.Timing: Synthetic hair extensions normally take up to five hours to put in, using two stylists; whereas human hair extensions can take up to 9 hours to put in! However with either type of extensions, you'll have to pay your salon a visit every six weeks for a bit of maintenance and a tidy up!
