Ayr College launches brand new Hair and Beauty department
Ayr College has officially launched its brand new Hair and Beauty department to help budding hairdressers and beauty therapists develop the skills they need to succeed, without having to travel outside Ayr. The new Hair and Beauty department features purpose-built state of the art training salons where students can gain hands-on practical experience in hairdressing and beauty therapy. The college now offers an SVQ Level 2 in Beauty which provides a broad introduction to the beauty industry. During the one-year full-time course, students will be able to gain hands-on experience in treatments including facials, massage, nail care and depilation. The college also offers a two-year SVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing which is a fantastic way to kick-start a career as a junior stylist. Students can gain practical experience in the college's modern salons and learn all aspects of salon work including styling, reception and safety skills. | Ayr College's Creative Industries Director, Fiona Hughes, being interviewed by West FM DJ Jen McGinlay at the Hair & Beauty launch. | Fiona Hughes, Creative Industries Director at Ayr College, said: "We are delighted to finally be able to offer Hair and Beauty courses to Ayr students. Our new state of the art salons offer the perfect training environment for students to learn about the industry and gain first-hand experience of the trade. It is a huge benefit to Ayr students that they can now study these subjects without having to travel outside the town."
LIVE RADIO SHOW To mark the launch of the new department, local radio station West FM broadcast a live show from the college to help people find out more about the new courses and to help the college launch its campaign entitled '21 Days of Hair and Beauty'. Over the next three weeks, representatives from the college's Hair and Beauty department will visit local schools and shopping centres to provide more information about the new courses and deliver make-up, hair and nail demonstrations. The campaign culminates with a fashion show at the Kyle Theatre on Friday, 22 May.
