THE 2011 HABB HONOURS AWARDS OPENS FOR NOMINATIONS
The industry charity the Hair & Beauty Benevolent (HABB) has announced the opening of the nominations for the 2011 HABB Honours Awards. The awards show support for both hair and beauty professionals in a time of need and want to recognise and honour amazing people in the industry who have done extraordinary things.
HABB would like to hear about people working in the hair and beauty industry who deserve recognition by their peers for overcoming personal difficulties themselves, or helping others. The two awards include:
1. The Outstanding Courage Award: this focuses on those who have overcome a difficulty themselves 2. The Compassionate Caring Award: this focuses on those who have gone that extra step for others
The nominee could be someone who has overcome some sort of medical issue, personal circumstance or learning difficulty. Or the nominee may do amazing things in the community - they may have devoted themselves to a parent or child but still managed to work, or they may have raised lots of money for a local charity. The list is open ended - whatever it is, it has to be inspirational. Entries can nominate themselves or others can nominate on their behalf.
The first ever HABB Honours Awards were presented to:
2010 Outstanding Courage Award (presented by John Frieda) was won by Natasha Nissan from The Chapel in Tunbridge Wells. Despite having bone cancer for which there is currently no cure, Natasha continues to work in the salon and is currently working on raising £25,000 for a local hospice. 2010 Compassionate Care Award (presented by Anthony Mascolo) was won by Liza Schwarz, who has created a salon to cater for people with disabilities after her son Spencer was born with a severe disability.
The HABB Honours Award also recognises the Outstanding Achievement Award, which cannot be entered but is decided by the HABB Committee based on an individual who has raised significant funds or awareness for a charity. The 2010 award was presented by HABB Chairman Philip Rogers toTony Rizzo, founder of the Alternative Hair Show for raising over £7 million for Leukaemia Research.
The HABB Honours Awards will be presented at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing Presidents Night on Monday 28th March 2011. The closing date for receiving entries is Monday 28th February 2011. Shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend the event in London.
