DEALING WITH COLD SORES

At this time of year many of us suffer with recurrent cold sores. Though not directly caused by weather conditions, cold sores can occur at this time of year if you are generally in low health and can be doubly painful in the cold or outside, although it is almost impossible to avoid getting cold sores, there are several things which you can do in order to ensure you minimise the discomfort.
Try AustralianBodyCare

• Dab Tea Tree Oil on the cold sore it helps to heal quicker and takes away the discomfort.

• Do not touch your eyes when you have a cold sore infection and take extra care when applying or removing make-up.

• Do not kiss people, especially children, when you have a cold sore.

• Do not have oral sex when either you or your partner are suffering from a cold sore - this may lead to genital Herpes.

• Do not break the blister or pick the scab which appears on your cold sore. Not only are you likely to infect your fingers with the virus but you may infect the sore with other germs.

• Do not share your eating or drinking utensils.

• Do not share towels or face cloths with other people in your household.

• Do wash your hands thoroughly if you accidentally touch a cold sore or when applying any medication you may be using on it.

CONSTIPATION

Often treated as a joke, constipation can be a real problem for some. With all the calories and extra food we consume over the festive period people who suffer from constipation can find the condition worsens at this time of year.

Constipation is the term used to describe irregular bowel actions, hard motions or difficulty in passing faeces. It is twice as common in women as it is in men and increases with age. A recent study revealed that 10 per cent of adults believed they had suffered from constipation during the previous fortnight. Those results may have stemmed from the widespread belief that the bowels should be opened daily and that failure to do so will cause any number of complaints ranging from headaches to depression. In fact, one medical study has shown that the average person may pass faeces as little as twice a week or as often as three times every day.

There is no doubt that as far as the treatment is concerned, the natural way is the best by far. The standard western diet

consists of far too few foods which provide fibre. An apple a day, an orange or a meal consisting of some lightly cooked vegetables will certainly keep the doctor away. Only rarely will laxatives be required to help ease your bowel movements and in such cases your doctor's advise should be sought. Constant use of laxatives will cause as many dangers as regular constipation can.

FIRST AID KIT

Make it one of your New Year's resolutions to have an adequate first aid kit in your home. A few tatty bandages and odd paracetamol tablets will not do. Every home should have a designated box containing a few essential items, kept clean and up to date and always out of the reach of children. Use an easily cleaned plastic tub, preferably with a lid and always keep items in their original packaging to avoid confusion. A good kit should contain:-
• antiseptic cream
• sting relief cream
• paracetamol
• antiseptic wiper
• triangular bandage
• selection of gauze and crepe bandages
• sterile gauze
• self adhesive strip
• eye dressing
• wide selection of self adhesive plaster
• cotton wool
• eye bath
• scissors
• tweezers
• safety pins
• aloe-vera gel
• burns spray
