If
you haven't had your flu jab
then get a move on. It's about
now that stocks start to dwindle
so if you want to avoid the
worst of the flu's around this
season then ask your GP if you
qualify for a free jab or pop
along to your local chemist
for all the info - you may find
they offer a service for the
jab there.
For
minor cold symptoms there's
a wealth of products on the
market but its always wise to
speak to the pharmacist before
you treat yourself. Be aware
that many over the counter remedies
contain paracetamol so check
this to avoid doubling up on
recommended doses.
Vicks First Defence helps to
retard the symptoms of a cold.
Use this nasal spray at the
first sign of a cold. The spray
attacks germs at the back of
the nose by trapping, deactivating
and aiding the body's own defence
mechanisms to remove the cold
virus in its early stages. Suitable
for anyone over 12 years.
Boots Pharmaceuticals Cold Defence
is a nasal spray suitable from
1 year old so may be of use
to children suffering from cold
symptoms. Its anti-viral properties
help reduce the risk of catching
a cold so could be used if you're
in an environment where other
people have colds. It can also
be used during pregnancy and
breastfeeding where some medications
are limited. Can be safely used
continuously through the winter
season.
Boots Ibuprofen 3 Month Plus
Suspension is a really good
medication for a suffering youngster.
Helps to relieve pain and fever,
it will also help with cold
and congestion symptoms.
Boots
Flu-Max All In One Tablets if
you don't want an array of medications,
tablets, medicines, capsules
etc, this simple tablet contains
the ingredients to soothe all
symptoms of coughs, colds and
flu in one dose. This does contain
Paracetamol so do not use with
other paracetamol products (including
hot lemon drinks such as Lemsip).
If you prefer, a powder-form
solution is available for those
who can't swallow tablets which
will give the same results.
If you are already suffering
and don't feel up to going out,
many pharmacies will deliver
your chosen medication free
of charge. Remember that almost
all cold and flu germs are spread
both by breath and touch so
always, cough or sneeze into
a tissue trapping the germs,
and carry around a mini hand
sterilizing gel in your dressing
gown pocket and use every time
you blow your nose etc to protect
the rest of the household.
It really is better to stay
indoors whilst you are full
of a cold as you may not feel
too bad, but your germs can
be really damaging to someone
who is asthmatic or bronchial
for instance. Germs spread on
credit cards, coins, cash machines
etc so you could be passing
your misery onto hundreds of
people without thinking. If
we all were a little more considerate
we might enjoy a cold and flu
free winter.
