At most women are aware October is Breast Cancer Care month.

Unfortunately many of us are affected by this most devastating of conditions within our families, close friends or colleagues.

The good new is that women are fare more 'Breast Aware' than of later years and this leads to earlier detection and more effective and life-saving treatment. Every woman aged 50-70 will be invited for mammogram testing every three years by their GP and these routine investigations should always be accepted.

For younger age groups it is absolutely
imperative that we check our own breasts on a regular basis and report any changes immediately.

If you're not sure how to go about this, your GP or practice nurse will only be too happy to explain and show you, and if you are at all concerned or confused don't be afraid to ask more than once.

Self examination can be tricky to master but practice nurses are patient and more than willing to help. If you can, try to support the Breast Cancer Care Campaign this month - there are really lovely products available at many retail outlets that support this important cause, and every penny counts to those who are suffering.

Harsh weather conditions can be really bad news for cold sore sufferers. Cold sores are actually caused by the herpes virus but cruel weather conditions can really exacerbate the problem. Ice cold winds and central heating can leave the lips in poor condition and it's often then when a cold sore will strike. They are of course highly contagious so it's really important not to share cups, towels or face cloths during an outbreak.
There are some really helpful products on the market and clinical tests have shown that liquorices may prevent attacks. Try the Liquorice and Melissa Lip Gel at the first signs of tingling - Melissa is a natural anti-viral available from www.skinshop.co.uk
