IS
GREEN CLEAN?
Many of us are now concerned about the amount of chemicals
we are using to clean our homes but are the 'green' alternatives
really efficient?
Eco-friendly cleaning products (ones that do not contain
phosphates, petroleums and chlorine, or other harmful
products) do work, says Paul Daly from Elite Cleaning.
'But they are still in the very early stages of development,
so you may have to put in a bit of extra elbow grease.
They also cost a little more than common detergents. We've
been using very effective eco-friendly cleaning methods
for years - such as vinegar to clean windows and lemon
juice to remove mould'. Ecover is the most well known
ecological range it's now stocked alongside mainstream
brands in Sainsbury's and Tesco. It's products use mineral
- and plant-based ingredients, |

DID
YOU KNOW.................?
Did you know that micro-organisms stay alive when frozen,
so foods should always be defrosted safely? Microwave is the
most effective method, as the period of defrosting is the
quickest, reducing the build-up of bacteria, cold-water thawing
is faster than refrigerator |
thawing but requires
more attention. The food must be in a leak-proof package, otherwise
bacteria could get in. The bag should be submerged in cold water,
changing the water every 30 minutes. Never defrost frozen food in
hot water.
