Here are Asgar’s top tips for getting the best
out of your hair this summer…
How to wear your hair to make your eyes stand out
“The best way to make your eyes stand out is to wear bangs
and fridges. You can wear your bangs in a variety of ways,
including curly or wispy, straight across your forehead, chopped
or curved. Also when you have your hair cut into layers around
your face, you bring attention to your eyes, although not
as dramatically as bangs do. Bangs work for both long and
short hair styles. Any styling element that
creates a horizontal focus at or around the temple level will
help to bring the eye notation.
Hair colour that brings attention to your eyes: Hair with
red undertones really makes blue or green eyes stand out,
black hair sets off lightly coloured eyes and blonde hair
looks great with deep, dark brown eyes. Remember choosing
the right hair shades can make your hair stand out more. Whatever
hair colour matches your skin tone will compliment your eyes
but if you try to coordinate hair colour and eye colour you
may end up with hair that goes beautifully with your eyes
but clashes with your skin tones.”
How
to wear your hair Young
“Your hair and face changes as you get older. Finding the
right cut and colour can give a huge boost to your overall
appearance. Plenty of women in their 40s and 50s still look
better with long hair. There is no reason to chop your hair
into a conservative crop just to make it more age appropriate.
One thing to remember is that excessive length can drag your
hair down pulling your features along with it. As well as
this, long hair that is slightly worn out or damaged can add
years to your look. Remember that there is no specific hair
style that will magically make you look young.
The right hair cut can make all the difference. When choosing
the right shade for your hair colour, make sure the colour’s
not too light or harsh, warmer tones look softer and younger.
If your hair is dark make sure it’s not too severe for your
skin tone. And if you’re starting to see greys, think about
hiding them with a lighter shade.”
How
to get the perfect beach/ festival/ pool-side look this summer
“Beach hair is that effortlessly sexy hair that looks like
it’s naturally beautiful and hasn’t been styled. It’s the
kind of style that looks better when it’s not perfect.
To get the beach look spritz your hair with water or towel
dry after washing. Make a few fat braids before going to bed
and in the morning undo them, run your fingers through your
hair or use a wide tooth comb to get that undone textured
look. Alternatively try wrapping random sections of hair around
giant tongs, don’t wrap all the hair, just pick certain sections
to keep the look haphazard and textured, remember volume should
be on the ends not on the roots.”
The
best ways to protect your hair from the sun
“When your hair is exposed to extra stress from the summer
sun, it’s imperative to minimize the damage from the start.
Make sure you use a leave-in conditioner or spray your hair
with UV protection. Covering your hair with a hat will also
help block damaging rays. Hair is most vulnerable when sunbathing
as it is often forgotten - if it’s not protected hair will
dry out causing split ends and fading to the colour. I suggest
shampooing your hair thoroughly after swimming to rinse the
chlorine out, try to deep condition your hair at least once
a week in the summer for extra moisture, also keep your ends
moisturized, keep your hair trimmed every four to six weeks
as split ends can be especially problematic during the summer
months, this can help to minimize breakage, dryness and frizz.”
How
to protect your hair against heat
Hair straighteners, curling irons, flat irons and hair dryers
are marvellous hairdressing tools which can help you produce
great hair styles. However you must protect your hair against
the damaging effects of daily blow drying, straighteners and
curling irons. You have the choice of many heat protection
products. Some are especially designed to give you straight
shiny hair or springy curls. You can select the optimum for
your needs and provide the best protection for your hair.
Don’t forget to protect your hair every time you apply heat
to it using heat protection spray. Before blow drying, spray
your hair with a good quality heat defence styling spray.
Then blow dry your hair 80% dry just using your fingers. Finish
drying your hair with a round brush for a smoother texture.
Remember there is one rule when you expose your hair to heat
– the hair must be protected.
