ENDS ON A HIGH
THE 2012 L’ORÉAL
COLOUR TROPHY GRAND FINAL
Over a 1000 of the hairdressing industry’s most prolific figures
gathered inside the prestigious Grosvenor House, Park Lane
on Monday 28th May 2012 for the highly anticipated 57th annual
L’Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final. The evenings super suave
and charasmatic celebrity presenter Rick Edwards of Channel
4 presented a high energy show fuelled by stunning shows and
fantastic competitor spirit. It was anxious wait for the 131
competitors as they waited to hear if they would be taking
home one of the 2012 L’Oréal Colour Trophies.
Once
the marks had been counted and the decision deliberated the
judging panel crowned Westrow, Westpark, Leeds the 2012 L’Oréal
Colour Trophy Award Winners. The talented team created a stunning
overall look that encapsulated the brief and demonstrated
‘Hair Inspired by Fashion’. Second place in this category
was awarded to Georges Hairdressing, Leicester and James Roberts
Hair & Beauty, Manchester won third place.
The acclaimed Men’s Image Award was snapped up by BOB, Clapham
Junction who created a perfectly tailored look following closely
behind the winners were runners up Trevor Sorbie, Brighton.
Now in its fourth year the much celebrated Mizani Afro Catwalk
Look Award is stronger than ever and displayed exciting talent
throughout the UK but TONI&GUY; Regents Street stunned the
judging panel with their look of Modernised 1940’s victory
rolls, inspired by the Autumn / Winter Henry Holland and Roberto
Cavalli fashion shows using strong colouring and shading out
to pastel tones.
One
Young Colourist winner was chosen from each of the seven UK
regions that together made the 2012 L’Oréal Colour Academy.
The award is designed to cultivate and develop young talented
hairdressers in the UK the seven ecstatic winners are: Lorraine
Maarleveld from Blonds Salon, Randalstown for the Northern
Irish Region Stephanie Morgan from TONI&GUY; Edinburgh for
the Scottish Region, Natasha Calderwood from James Roberts
Hair & Beauty in Manchester for the North Western Region,
Ashleigh Ruttledge from CRC Cutting Room Creative in Albion
Street, Leeds for the North Eastern Region, Michelle Curtis
from Bohemia in Ipswich for the Eastern Region, Lisa Candy
from Vatican Hairdressing in Canterbury for the Southern &
South Western Region and Siobhon Golden from TONI&GUY; Maylebone
High Street for the London Region.
The Grosvenor House space was transformed into an arena of
exclusive art installations, heart racing music and thrilling
fashion inspired hairdressing. The astounding 42 metre, never
seen before, catwalk and breathtaking 17 metre long, 4 metre
high LED screen both immersed the audience into every part
of the show.
The
evening opened with an amazing show titled ‘Rebel London’
by Peter Gray, a session stylist renowned in the world of
couture fashion and his team of creatives including a talented
collection of L’Oréal Professionnel Portfolio Session stylists.
Gray merged his extraordinary experience of Givenchy, Yves
Saint Laurent campaigns and worldwide Vogue shoots into a
display of stunning craftsmenship that pushed creative boundaries
and celebrated the diverse fashion corners of London. His
show consisted of an array of fresh Central St Martins MA
Graduate Designers and structural advisories such as Ana Rajcevic,
London College of Fashion MA Fashion Artefact. “This audience
has an incredible eye for quality and the event has a great
heritage of hair and fashion. We continue to do shows to inspire
people and I always try to push the boundaries” Peter Gray
The final show of the evening was supplied by the multi award
winning RUSH Artistic Team, the audience were propelled into
a creative whirlwind entitled ‘Triptych’. This work of art
was divided into three segments creating a fusion of fashion,
hair and music that raised the roof and had pulses racing.
The show included exclusive finely crafted, high-definition
and stereoscopic digital film installations by renowned creative
Doug Foster as well as an adrenalin pumping performance by
the underground superstar Ruby Goe.

an exciting visual spectacle to ignite everyone’s senses.”

Following a dramatic and emotional conclusion to the evening
the award winners and guests from all over the UK celebrated
the end of a five month journey in style at the chic after
party hosted by London based Model & super cool DJ Becky Tong
daughter of infamous Pete Tong.
After the confetti settled the 2012 L’Oréal Colour Trophy
winners will begin a new exciting expedition of a ‘Year of
Dreams’ with a prize created to push their own personal business
and creative boundaries. Grand Final Judge and acclaimed hairdresser
Richard Ward comments;
“Winning a ‘year of dreams’ prize is the most amazing break
